I think the cost of going to Tulsa will really eat into the guarantee. JMHO... I agree, especially when you factor in the charter flight.
When I was at FAMU, we had $650,000 guarantees for each game against UMiami (500 miles by bus from Tallahassee) and a lot of that was gobbled up in the travel (buses/hotel/meals). Folks don't realize how expensive it is to move 80 people for a game.

yeah, i agree. that’s why the unc money game was so beneficial in terms of revenue because our “overhead” for that game was minimal...

I cant believe travel cost that much. Two charter buses to Tulsa $20,000 ? average cost of a room $100 players two to a room (maybe you spend $8,000) Food $50 bucks a person per day $8,000. Help me out I could not see this costing more than $40k in travel cost including coaches. That would leave a profit of $260k ? if you take the band probably cost you another $60K.

As an athletics director, would you send your team to Tulsa on the bus?? It is 1,076 miles from Greensboro to Tulsa on I-40.

You could maximize your revenue if we took Greyhound buses, ate fast food and booked rooms at local alumni homes but come on guys what message does that send to the players and recruits. We don't have to eat steak and lobster every night but we do have to take care of the team. I've heard some wild numbers tossed around but I trust our AD to be good stewards.

Why is travel expenses not included in playing these FBS schools?
I think we should go after some Sun Belt teams. I would love to play GA State

Also in most cases the homeschool will provide access to the athletic training tablet for visiting teams!

I think the cost of going to Tulsa will really eat into the guarantee. JMHO... Are all guaranteed games structured to not include expenses or are some structured to cover expenses? Sometimes you can negotiate certain items like rooms and meals as certain schools have sponsorship agreements with particular hotels. The larger schools will give more money, but are also more physical for the most part. If you are going further than an 8 hour bus ride, it's better to try to negotiate a larger guarantee so that you are bringing home 300K after expenses. But sometimes, you have to get what you can. And I'm sure we feel more competitive with Tulsa as opposed to an Oklahoma State...

You're talking about traveling with a party of around 80 folks. If you are busing, you definitely don't want to travel any more than 8 or 9 hours tops. For a Saturday game, you are probably leaving on Thursday morning (early) and hoping that the kids can get their legs back by Saturday. Probably coming back on Sunday. So you're talking 4 days of meals, 3 nights at the hotel. Probably 50 rooms. Things add up very quickly. Did you read where Dr. Ruff said it would cost 50K to send the band to FAMU?

Some good points but you must not travel alot i do. Even with airfare 80 people $300 per ticket is $24,000. my company gives a $50 a day food allowance I travel almost every week and i eat good on the road. Average hotel cost in Tulsa is $100; I was in Tulsa this week and go quite often. The key is to travel to low cost cities. As an example playing Tulane would be costly since food hotels are expensive in some cities.

I know a # of athletes that went on to play at Tulsa. They have a number of accommodations that provide discounts to visiting teams when they are competing there. They also have a hotel right near campus that usually accommodates visiting teams. I have no idea if they addressed that issue with the Tulsa administration hopefully they did.
