Durhan, I appreciate your optimism, it really makes me question that some of us could be wrong (perhaps even incentive) about the direction of the program, and if Cy is the coach next year I really hope that your optimism proves true. I just don't see it. If I were Cy (and I'm not) I would would hit the CIAA like a carpetbagger looking and signing proven DII players that want to play in the big dance. I guarantee you there are some 6-8 to 6-9's at 230lbs in the AA that will not back down from Jawara and this boys at Central, and can play next year! One reason Cy won a couple of years ago is we had some enforcers along with decent talent that despised loosing.

Durhamgsoaggie, Thanks for the video link. I'm no college recruiter. But Hunt looks to be really good shooter, someone that will score the ball. Those fall back jumps shot-drives against a 6-3 MEAC defender will not be as easy for a 6' guard. What I did not see are PG skills. Hunt reminds me a little of Howard's PG, James Daniel, a scoring point guard and perhaps more talented than Hunt. Hunt is a good addition and I'm glad he chose A&T. All that being said, who will run the team next year at PG? Abdullah is Ok, but he is still a walk on PG for a D1 program, and Williams has potential, we will have to see if he develops...he still is not proven. In my opinion there is the gap at PG for next season. Additionally with the gap at PG, to compete in the MEAC you need three double figure scores. Beckford has proven that he can score double figures in the MEAC, however, I am hard pressed to believe that with out a PG, we can have two additional double figure scores on next years team. None of the returning players have proven to be double figure scores at the D! level. Improvement for the players that we forecast/expect/hope to be....on next years squad will be 7-8 MEAC victories versus what we will get this year. Cy has to signed another player that is proven at the D! level, and that will be hard to have on next year's team since any D1 transfer would be on the bench now and sitting out, and someone on this board would know about it. Maybe there is a 6-9 Claude Williams that is on campus, who averaged 12 points a game in the ACC/SEC/PAC-12...some conference, and none of us know about him. If 7-8 MEAC wins is the improvement that we are looking for then Cy is the guy for next season. No problem, aggiepower.... Hunt is going to be the 1 for us next year, so he won't be seeing too many 6'3" cats. Again, this video was from 2 1/2 years ago.... so his skillset has expanded. He's a coach's son who understands how to run a team. His strength is the jumper, no doubt. But, like in any sport, a player has to have a least one weapon that is an advantage over his opponent to set up everything else in his game.... but he did have a pretty nice crossover in that clip, too. Sam's handle is pretty nice at this point... easily better than anyone playing for us this year. He actually had 17 points and 4 assists in our Blue & Gold scrimmage to start the season while playing with the bench team. I saw enough in that game to see that he has the vision, court awareness and handle to be a very good PG for us. The biggest thing about Sam is his work ethic to improve. That is the real key. In talking with our facilities folks, he's the cat shooting jumpers and running personal drills at 4 am while everyone else is sleeping. He's the guy doing situational work to improve at the PG position. That's stuff that a coach can't teach or put into the heart of a player. We know he puts in the work, because you don't get a jumper like Sam's without it. Having a guard who can manage end-of-game situation makes this squad better. Having a 2-man game with Sam and Bruce automatically makes this squad better. If the other guys on the work start work close to as hard as Sam does.... we'll have a winning season. If we land Deion James and one other big... we'll be even better. I believe a guy like James Whitaker takes a major step if he works out with Sam this summer. Guys need someone who is good enough to embarrass them if they're not on their game in order to push them to be better. And there's 1-2 other guys that will make steps and get us where we need to be. But everyone will have their opinion..... to each, their own... i think you're dead on about hunt. and again i point out that most recruits in the meac really don't blossom until their junior season unless they're instant impact players like bruce was as a freshman. that's why i'm so optimistic about the ton of sophomores currently on our team that will be juniors next season. some of our best players in the recent past really didn't elevate their games until they were juniors, like adrian powell for example. and even thomas coleman and witter didn't really elevate their games until they were seniors. anybody who expects a freshman and sophomore dominated team like ours to excel in the meac, then i've got some land in idaho that i'd like to sell you...

You spent your time talking about everything Cy has done and compared them to what Eaves, Hunter, Thomas, and Capel didn't do.... You act as if Cy has revolutionized Aggie basketball in 3 years, by comparing him to coaches who really had no business being DI head coaches in the first place (outside of Capel). Again, you aren't comparing apples to apples. If you think you are.....I'll meet you halfway.....Cy is an extremely ripe apple that is about to rot while the other coaches are green, immature apples that had no business being picked from the coaching tree in the first place......
Stop calling folks clueless. You always come across as a petulant little child when you start losing arguments. When I disagree with you, I say I respectfully disagree. When you see someone who disagree with you, you call them clueless. There may be many adjectives people may describe me as on this board.....clueless ain't one of them.
Learn to show respect to others on this board....especially when folks know just as much (dare I say much more) as you. You try to convince folks you're smart by trying to make everyone else look dumb. Word to the wise.....we aren't that dumb....and you really aren't that smart.

look, nss. your rebuttals go way off on a completely different tangent relative to what’s being discussed. that’s why i stated that you were “clueless”. here you are talking about coach cy’s and our previous coaches “experience” level, when experience had absolutely nothing to do with what was being debated. my comments was directed towards the “standard” that coach cy was being judged by, not the experience levels of coaches that came before him.
so you can keep tripping on this who’s smart and who’s not crap if you want to, but that has nothing to do with my rebuttal, nothing whatsoever. besides, you lost all credibility with me when you got caught lying about hilton (who has a law background) saying he personally told you why bustle got fired even though to do so violates north carolina privacy laws...

Read the entire posts on this topic. Cy Alexander's coaching experience is a major reason why people are perplexed as to why he's underperforming as a coach. I read your post as well. You were saying all the semi-accomplishments he's had since he's been here. You comment on the 20-win season he had in his first year.......you are correct when you said it hadn't been done since Corbett. You were also correct when you commented on our subpar MEAC records over the past decades and how he hasn't done much worse than his predecessors. I understood that as well.
THERE WAS NOTHING YOU SAID THAT WAS INCORRECT OR CONTROVERSIAL.
But what I was saying was that HE SHOULD BE WINNING 20 GAMES; HE SHOULD HAVE A BETTER MEAC RECORD THAN WHAT HE'S HAD. The man had been a DI head basketball coach for 22 years before he even came to A&T....this isn't even counting his years as an asst coach under AB Williamson at Howard.
Was Jeff Capel II a DI head coach before he came to A&T - NO Was Roy Thomas a DI head coach before he came to A&T - NO Was Curtis Hunter a DI head coach before he came to A&T - NO Was Jerry Eaves a DI head coach before he came to A&T - NO
So when you compare Cy's 3-year run to those other coaches, frankly I just don't think it makes much sense to do so because the other coaches had nowhere near the DI coaching backgrounds Cy had UPON ENTERING A&T.
Now if you still think I'm "Stacy Dash clueless" on what I'm talking about, please have a friend on this board call you or send you a private message to explain it to you. Just as what you were stating wasn't confusing, neither was my response to it.
......I really don't understand the reason why you threw in the comment about my discussion with Hilton at the end of your last post.
You start your last thread by saying "your rebuttals go way off on a completely different tangent relative to what's being discussed." You then finish the EXACT SAME POST talking about Hilton/Bustle......which by the way......GOES ON A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TANGENT RELATIVE TO WHAT'S BEING DISCUSSED.....
As usual, the more you keep typing and talking, YOU EVENTUALLY END UP CONTRADICTING YOUR OWN SELF!!!!

This back and forth debate isn't getting us any closer to resolving this question. You guys are now debating the debate. So let me just recap where we are to this point...there are some of us that look at the current state of our men's basketball team and think, this team sucks. Regardless of the classification of the players on the court, who we recruited or the personal challenges of the coach, this team is awful and we should cut our losses and replace Cy at the end of this season. Then there are some other of us that believe that the classification of the players and Cy's personal challenges had an impact on the team the past two years and that he should be given another year to turning this team around. So that's the real debate...is Cy capable of turning this program around next season?
Now a lot of us don't think that should be a gamble we should take. Granted, our men's basketball program has been awful for over a decade, so does one more crappy season matter under Cy? If Cy duplicates another 20 game losing season, will anybody care based on our past track record? Oh I know us diehard Aggies on this board with cry bloody murder if he sleeps through another season but we will save some money. We will not have to pay him and another coach to replace him. And we need to save money in the basketball program because no one is going to buy a ticket (except the diehards) to see this team play bad basketball.
We can debate back and forth why we should or should not keep Cy for next season but we will not get a definitive answer until next season. If we bring him back next season and he sets the MEAC on fire, us skeptics will have to eat crow. But as an old banker, I've been trained that if a historical trend is going down, bet your money that it will continue...unless some dramatic changes are made. Keep Cy one more year isn't a dramatic change.

Look on the bright side; we won't loose today. Which, to me, brings up another question: Why in the heck are we not playing on a Saturday??? (This conference schedule has really gotten screwed up!)

Guys...the truth is, both of you are correct in what you are saying. Should be no argument; you both are correct. 69 is correct as well because, the question becomes what's our next move? Do we go in a different direction or do we stay the course we're on? It just makes it a longer off-season for football when the basketball squad isn't doing well.
We continue to say that we have no talent but, I believe we could probably do a little better than we are doing with the talent we do have. The coach having the misfortune that he's had is sad, any way you look at it. But, his profession demands that he be successful regardless of personal circumstances. Thus, I can only imagine the AD's thought process at this point. Tough...

I don't know too many coaches over 60 that are winning at low major programs..The game has changed. Cy is an old school coach stuck in his ways..When you don't have good shooters, you have to make it an ugly game..Play hard defense, push the ball, play in transition and get some easy baskets. It's hard to play half court basketball without having multiple threats on offense.
I agree that LM programs don't have the recruiting budget, that's why you need to develop alliances with the AAU programs all across the country. Who on our roster played travel ball for one of the major shoe companies? I know Sam played for CP3, but I don't know about anyone else..Not necessarily complaining, just my two sense worth..As my name suggests, I graduated in 82, so I been following our bball team for many years, and have coached AAU and currently help run a program sponsored by a major shoe company..I see talent all the time, so I know a little bit of what I'm talking about..

If you are not tied in to the AAU basketball scene you are basically left out in the cold when it comes to recruiting. You would think as long as Cy has been around that he would be tired in to the better AAU programs and junior college programs.

Aggie82, thanks for sharing an interesting insight about coaching in today's college basketball world. If Cy was winning, we wouldn't care if he had AAU players or not. But he's not winning. I don't know what he needs to do to be relevant again but so far he's not doing much for the A&T men's basketball program. Your comments points to the biggest question we are facing...can or will Cy turn this program around with another year as coach. If we keep him we are betting that he can. For a lot of us, that's too much to gamble.

Its hard to beleive that he is not linked in to AAU Teams or at least someone on his staff..
Aggie 82 do you see any presence from HBCU's with your team / league
