Keith is no longer here so I don't want any more damn excuses.
We need to FINALLY have a full-fledged, fan-friendly Spring Game Event this year like any serious program would. We need to treat this as the top athletic marketing tool of the offseason.
I want gameday programs, a live announcer, interactive games for the kids, a fully operated jumbotron, and the machine performing at halftime.
The A&T athletic department has ample time to make this happen. I don't care if we don't have a marketing director on staff yet; make it happen.
No excuses this year. BDV.com is watching.

www.azcentral.com/sports/asu/articles/0212asufoot0213.htmlASU's spring game to be a bash Jeff Metcalfe The Arizona Republic Feb. 12, 2008 01:55 PM Arizona State is one of about 20 colleges turning spring football into the Gridiron Bash. Pep rallies and concerts featuring a major act will be held April 18 across the country, including at Sun Devil Stadium, preceding spring football games at each school on April 19. The ASU festivities also will include the fourth annual Pat's Run in support of the Pat Tillman Foundation on April 19. The Gridiron Bash is the creation of MSL Sports and Entertainment and is being billed as the largest multi-venue sports and entertainment event ever held on college campuses. Fox Sports Net will air one-hour shows featuring entertainment highlights on April 19 and football highlights on April 20. Also up for grabs is $1.75 million in the USA Today Bash for Cash. Three schools will win a share of that money for their general scholarship fund based on attendance at the Gridiron Bash and fans who text/call in to vote for their school. The entertainment headliner at ASU is expected to be announced by next week. Acts already scheduled are Counting Crows at Colorado and Goo Goo Dolls at Kansas State.
Fergie, Kelly Clarkson, Maroon 5, ZZ Top, Dwight Yoakam, Taylor Swift, Montgomery Gentry, Good Charlotte, Black Crowes and Fall Out Boy are expected to be among the Gridiron Bash performers.
Other participating schools include Washington, Utah, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Rutgers, Penn State, Iowa, Kentucky, South Carolina, Maryland, West Virginia and Army. "With Coach (Dennis) Erickson coming on and the caliber of players there, Arizona State is absolutely on the national radar," said Shawn Garrity, president of MSL Sports and Entertainment. "There's a lot of excitement for Sun Devil football." MSL Sports and Entertainment produced the Penthouse Desire SuperParty featuring Snoop Dogg in Scottsdale on the night before the Super Bowl. Gridiron Bash expects to raise more than $12 million in combined revenues for participating schools. The concert will be the first at Sun Devil Stadium since separate appearances by U2 and the Rolling Stones in 1997.

I think we should invite the SGA to somehow help with organizing this. The students have never really come out to the event in year's past.

Offers Huge Revenue Generating Possibilities for Colleges & Universities and $1.75 Million in ScholarshipsNEW YORK, NY, September 5, 2007 – MSL Sports & Entertainment today announced that it has teamed with USA Today, some of International Sports Properties’ (ISP) premiere institutions and Learfield Sports to create a spectacular new property, the Gridiron Bash, which will take place the eve before Spring Games -- April 18 -- at top college football schools across the country. Gridiron Bash (football’s equivalent to March Madness) will broaden the fan experience to include a live concert, interactive fan area, giant pep rally, chalk talks/autograph sessions with school football legends, a truncated practice, and a $1.75 million scholarship award contest. Three college football powers have already signed on, including the University of Tennessee, Kansas State, and Texas A&M. By mid-Fall, MSL expects to have at least 15-20 high-profile schools in the mix for next April. “Similar to the excitement surrounding March Madness, there’s also excitement around football in the spring, when schools hold practices and Spring Games to showcase the following year’s squad and new recruits,” says MSL President, Shawn Garrity, a former star Syracuse football player himself. “Tens of thousands of spectators come out each spring to watch scrimmages at these major football schools, but that’s typically where the ‘fan experience’ ends. Gridiron Bash extends the experience and enables fans to support their team, give back to their university and have a great time doing so.” Spring Game attendance this past year reached 92,000+ at the University of Alabama and 78,000+ at Ohio State University. In addition to the festivities taking place in the football stadiums the night before the game, there will be a fan contest - Bash for Cash series (BCS) - to establish which of the participating schools has the most passionate and supportive fans. The Bash for Cash winning schools will be determined by adding up the total attendance at the Gridiron Bash event and combining that with the number of fans who text/call in to vote for their school. MSL is projecting Gridiron Bash total attendance to be about 1 million. The Bash for Cash winning university will receive a $1 million contribution to their General Scholarship fund, with 2nd and 3rd place schools receiving $500,000 and $250,000 respectively. Presentation of the winning schools will be aired live in conjunction with the national television partner. “Gridiron Bash is a win-win situation for colleges and universities involved, as well as corporate sponsors,” says Rex Hough, Vice President, Big East Conference Relationship Manager for ISP. “MSL has brought an innovative and amazing vehicle to Universities hungry for new revenue streams, and with thousands of passionate fans who support the team and the school, they’ll be guaranteed a specific income. Corporate America also benefits by using entertainment and the fan-based experience as a way to cater to and communicate with this captive and sought-after demographic.” With gate and merchandise revenue -- as well as the opportunity to make money on parking, food and beverage sales -- Garrity estimates the Gridiron Bash deal to be worth $40 million, with about $12 million going back to the universities. “We’re thrilled to be intimately involved with Gridiron Bash on a corporate level, and we are pleased that our partner schools represented see a value in this one-of-a-kind event specifically built around, and for, the collegiate community,” says Andy Rawlings, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Learfield Sports. I don't see why not. It turned out fine in Winston. It would be a good way to kick off spring time. Just let me know what to bring.

It wouldn't take much to get the word out...Its just a matter of Athletics getting the lead out. I think we should invite the SGA to somehow help with organizing this. The students have never really come out to the event in year's past.

Thrilla I think we still should work with the AD to market and get invest the Event. Because in the long run they will be reaping the benefits which I don't have a issue with but its to the AD interest that he market the Spring Games as a Event.
