The new DC is Tyrone Odom, formerly the defensive line coach at Bethune-Cookman. Here's his bio:
Entering into his third year with the Bethune-Cookman University family, Tyrone Odom has already made his impression felt at B-CU with a defensive line that was one of the best in the league during his first of the 2005 campaign. They came back to do the same during the 2006 campaign.
With a full year under his belt, Odom also played a prominent role in the Wildcats defense being ranked amongst the top five in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in pass defense efficiency, rush defense and total defense. The `Cats also ranked in the top five for sacks, as well as red zone defense.
Lured to Bethune-Cookman from Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Ga. where he served as assistant head coach for the Panthers before being promoted to interim head coach prior to the 2004 season. Odom was also the recruiting coordinator for the Panthers as his team continued to strive towards the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) championship.
Prior to venturing to Clark Atlanta, Odom served for there years at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. At Georgia Southern, Odom was in charge of the defensive ends and linebackers of the Eagles program. In 2000, Odom and his defense was an intricate part of the Eagles winning the I-AA National Championship ... the sixth in school history. He stayed with the Eagles until after the 2001 season when he stepped over to Clark Atlanta.
Tyrone Odom also served for one year at Gardner Webb University in Boiling Springs, North Carolina with the Bulldogs program in 1999. At Gardner Webb, his defensive line registered 34 sacks and 55 tackles behind the line of scrimmage. His defensive line was a key reason why the Bulldogs ranked as one of the best in the conference that season.
A native of Shelby, North Carolina, Odom played his high school football as a standout defensive lineman with the Chargers of Crest High School in Shelby. Behind the efforts of Odom and the defensive unit, mixed with their patented use of five (5) wide receivers, the Chargers made numerous State and Semifinal appearances in the North Carolina Class 4-A (AAAA) football playoffs/championships. Odom would later serve as linebacker coach for the Chargers from 1997-98 before stepping up to the collegiate level.
After high school, Odom ventured to North Carolina Central University where he would play for former Bethune-Cookman head coach Larry Little from 1992-97. At NCCU, Odom earned the nickname "Panther", while the Eagles defense earned the top secondary and pass defense in Division II in 1996. He earned a degree in Physical Education from NCCU in 1997.
Tyrone Odom is happily married to wife Audrey, while the couple enjoys the company of their daughter, Jasmine. The family currently resides in the Daytona Beach area.
