Not only have you told Fobbs who to hire , you have also told him where to assign (Ragsdale) his coaches. Do you really think the people that made the decision to remove Ms. Todd did so because of pressure from this board? This is a great place to voice concerns, but I doubt that it is read at the top and surely not by the new Battle team. Smith is a great guy as far as I can tell and may be a fine coach, but hiring him based on this pressure would be bad precedent..next BDV will want to tell him who to start at QB or to sign the rb at Reidsville or Dudley

Let Mo prove himself first and work for free. We all know, just cause you played the game don't mean you can be a good coach at it.

We are not pressuring Fobbs to do anything. Our petition is a respectful request. Fobbs obviously is familar with Mo Smith because Mo was on the sideline all of last season and helped out a great deal with recruiting this past offseason.
This petition is similar to a letter of recommendation that every job appliciant would submit in an interview process.
BTW: You better believe that every one in Dowdy is aware of what is discussed on this board. Everyone at A&T knows about BDV.com. That is just a fact.

If Mo was a benefit to the team then I'm sure Fobbs will give him strong consideration now that he has two openings. It has to be his choice without getting excessive pressure from the administration. If his decisions don't pan out then we need to hire a new head coach.

What qualifies him? I guess we just want to make a habit of hiring guys with no coaching experience, huh? Dee Todd should have been retained if that's the case.

I have a real problem telling any coach he or she must hire someone based upon fan opinion or a popularity poll.

What qualifies any first year football coach? He played the game, made it to the NFL, has coached on the high school level and has helped out the current staff with recruiting. Obviously he knows what it takes to be a good player and has a love for the program. Last year Fobbs hired a 20-something-year old receivers coach who probably had less experience than Doug Brown. I think Mo Smith would be a great hire for Fobbs heading into this season.

Like A-1 said and a few of us seem to feel, that’s great but I don’t think it’s good practice to start a petition telling the coach who he should hire. Whether or not that’s the intent, that is exactly how it comes off. It’s one thing to type “I think it’d be a good idea” on a thread, it’s quite another to submit a petition that says “we want you to do this.”

Read the petition again. It is a respectfull request for consideration. It is not a demand.
After back-to-back 0-11 seasons, Fobbs has proven that he needs all the help he can get. This petition is our suggestion on how he could greatly improve his coaching staff. If he wants the fans' continued support in this rebuilding process it would behoove him to listen to our suggestions.

All that sounds great, but the guy is not proven. Why would a head coach that has done nothing to prove himself, none the less, hire someone that's not proven? He's never done it before. Tell me he was a grad-assistant somewhere. Tell me he held the film sessions for the running backs. Tell me that he filled in on a couple of practices. But, please don't tell me the guy had great seats on the sideline and now he's our man for the job.
And as for the receivers coach, that's more of a reason never to do it again. The passing game was non-existent.
I know we're bad, but c'mon.

Actually I thought the receivers performed well last year. Caldwell devloped as a legit deep threat and Walls and Dawson were pretty steady all season. They seemd to do a decent job of getting open and didn't have that many drops. The problem was the OL, inconsistent QB play and the play calling in general.

Here's an article I found:
Football camp growing quickly Matt Boaz
Jul 31, 2007 5:24 pm
The Gideon T. Johnson Sr. Football Camp is starting to get the attention of Jacksonville's football community.
The third annual camp drew 135 youths to Jacksonville High School Saturday, despite hot and muggy conditions. It was the highest enrollment yet for the camp named after the former head football coach at Georgetown and Jacksonville high schools.
"This was our best response yet," said Gideon T. Johnson Jr., the camp director and son of the man for which the camp is named. "We had a lot of great sponsors to get us some extra advertising and we had the support of a lot of people.
"I think we are going to grow even more now that we have so many people involved. We had a great response from the Pop Warner league this year."
The camp was highlighted by the appearance of two Jacksonville High graduates who have found great success in the game.
Tyrone Willingham, a Division I NCAA coach at Stanford, Notre Dame and now Washington, spoke to the campers at the start of the day. He wasn't able to remain at the camp because of a new NCAA rule that forbids head coaches from being an instructor at such camps.
Also attending was Qasim Mitchell, who has been an offensive lineman in the NFL for six seasons and was signed in the off-season by the Arizona Cardinals.
Instructors also included Quincy Monk, the former White Oak High, University of North Carolina and NFL linebacker; Troy Pelshak, who played college ball at N.C. A&T and now performs with the New York Dragons of the Arena Football League; Maurice Smith, a teammate of Pelshak's at A&T and a former running back with the Green Bay Packers; and Timmy Mack and Gary Freeman, both East Carolina University players who spent some time in the NFL.
"We were very fortunate to have instructors of this quality and it makes this a special event for the kids," said Johnson. "When I was growing up we didn't have camps like this. We didn't have the opportunity to get this close to these guys.
"A lot of the pros we had out here today are going to work with us to try and get even more quality instructors out here next year."
Kendrick Rogers, another camp official, said plans are in the works to make the camp even bigger.
"We are thinking about making it a two-day event," he said after the campers were awarded their certificates and allowed to seek autographs from the instructors. "We want to get started right now on lining up the people who can be here. We are excited about the future."

OK, its settled know. Darryl Klugh, captain of the 1999 Black College National Championship team and arguably the smartest player ever to wear Blue and Gold, just signed the petition. www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?hiremo&1With a recommendation like Klugh's, I expect Fobbs to make an official announcement about hiring Mo any moment now.

Are you saying Ragsdale is a poor coach who played in the pros.

Ragsdale is one of the best coaches on the staff and has a ton of experience. I think he was an OC before for NSU under Mo Forte. He could probably coach any position on the team. That's why it should not be hard to move him to another area and let Mo Smith coach running backs. No one is advocating get rid of Ragsdale.
