Those of you who visit MFZ know that I am 100% against this JIM CROW BOWL and why I am against it. We've been fighting since April of 1865 for INCLUSION. We've made major strides and we've made minor strides ON ALL FRONTS OF AMERICAN LIFE. Now is not the time to settle for EXCLUSION for a FEW PIECES OF SILVER. This is a move BY THE SWAC to help save the SWAC...AT OUR EXPENSE. I like your Observation!

ESPN have serious business folks, so why would they pay 45x more than what they are paying now for the same product?
Secondly, we know SWAC executives know little about business and are prone to exaggerate revenues by about 100x.

I have lived through segregation, separate but unequal schools, jim crow and flat out racism but I don't see a HBCU FCS level championship as a bad thing if...we make more money than we would have made loosing in the first round of the FCS playoff. I could spend a lot of time explaining my reasons but if you think HBCU's should not create their own athletic programs that fit their fans and financial situation then it will not change your mind. But if you think about it...that's exactly what is happening with the larger white schools.

I could spend a lot of time explaining my reasons but if you think HBCU's should not create their own athletic programs that fit their fans and financial situation then it will not change your mind. But if you think about it...that's exactly what is happening with the larger white schools. to me, i'm more in line with aggierattler's views, its not about whether we make more money in the playoffs as opposed to an hbcu championship. to me its about not segregating ourselves from the schools that we have fought so doggone hard and long to become a part of. its about not only affiliating ourselves with our fellow hbcu's, but also aligning ourselves with the white institutions that we aspire to meet and/or exceed their standing both academically and athletically "nationwide". i take pride in knowing that a&t can stand next to any fcs pwc both academically and athletically. i do not want us to deem ourselves prone to hbcu competition only and i don't feel we should "pigeon whole" ourselves into an hbcu "only" corner. our school is "diversifying" our enrollment and our “brand” is important to us not just relative to other hbcu’s, but also to pwc’s. we compete against pwc’s for the best students and professors, we don’t need to be labeled "solely" as an hbcu, we also need to be labeled as a great academic institution regardless of race. when we “pigeon whole” ourselves into an hbcu only scenario, we deny our school the exposure we need to sit amongst all pwc’s as equals. instead, an hbcu “only” championship game removes us from any postseason exposure to pwc’s relative to fcs football. how do we expect to expand our “brand” across all racial lines if we limit ourselves to hbcu’s only? sure we could still play the elon’s and ccu’s of the world, but that’s just local coverage. but when an meac team competes in the playoffs (whether we win or lose), we’re exposed nationally to all races and all pwc’s, thus expanding our brand beyond followers of hbcu’s only. about 95% of viewers for an hbcu championship will be african american. the demographics for a playoff game will have national appeal and will have a much larger and more diverse viewership. its not all about money, its also about our "brand"...

I agree 100%. The creature that cant evolve eventually goes extinct. We are capable of competiting with top tier FCS Programs why go back doing something that we did 30 years ago. Use this to expand your brand....

something to consider If we give up our auto conference bid and go play this Bowl game.... what if it doesn't make money in few years and espn decides to drop the idea because its not profitable.(all schools don't travel well or have the fan base) can we go back as say "Can we have our bid back"....

The conference will have to petition the NCAA to get the AQ back. That may take a season or two once the application is submitted.

I sent the "AD" an email yesterday voicing my concern in Reference to this RUMOR!
He didn't have time to elaborate, (on his way to Orlando), but advised he we would talk off-line when he returns from Orlando, but he did share my concern particularly about:
AGGIE PRIDE!

I guess the MEAC Office and Executive Board haven't noticed the declining attendance at their MEAC football games. Students are not going to football games and Homecoming attendance in the MEAC last year for some teams were at a all-time low. The attendance for SWAC Championship games are declining and the SWAC-MEAC Challenge never drew enough fans to fill two end-zones sections. Also, whether it is a direct affect or coincident, the SWAC power football teams have been on the decline since they began forgoing their automatic bid to the NCAA football playoffs. There are still some HBCU football Classics that draw but those Classics or revelries normally have been longstanding for decades.
And the last kicker, finances and the economy for black families. We can only make it to so many football games that involves travel and hotel stays. A BCF Championship during Christmas shopping days is not going to be high on the list of "must-do" unless a lot of Blacks boycott buying stuff during Christmas........and that ain't gonna happen.
But, I can see success if there is very good long term strategy involved with realistic expectations and goals plus smart hiring of the right consultants and contractors to get it done.

Attendance is down across the board hanks to the technology. TRUE...it's not just the MEAC whose attendance is down. Here in Florida, there is great concern about attendance at FBS schools...especially in Gainesville (UF), Tampa (USF), Orlando (UCF) and Miami (UM and FIU). UFlorida has had a huge drop in student attendance! And Florida State had a tremendous drop on overall attendance a few seasons ago, and has only bounced back on the strength of their national title run last season.
