EXCERPT FROM ANOTHER THREAD...
And that would be the last great memory for the Aggie program for a while as teams like Hampton, Florida A&M and others would roar pass North Carolina A&T. The Aggies were simply an afterthought in the MEAC race. They hit rock bottom four years ago when they went 1-26 and lost all 14 of their home games.
Enter former Louisville great Jerry Eaves, who came to North Carolina A&T in the spring of 2003 for his first head-coaching job. He would begin the painful process of trying to bring the Aggie program back.
Eaves would do it the hard way. No quick fixes. Build with freshmen, take a transfer here and there, but do it the right way.
It wasn't easy for Eaves, because like most teams in the MEAC, the Aggies had to play a demanding non-conference schedule to make money for the athletic department to sur-vive. They won just three games in his first year and then got six wins the next two seasons.
Finally last year, Eaves got to see some results. North Carolina A&T was one of the most improved teams in the country as the Aggies finished with a 15-17 overall record. The 15 wins were as many as North Carolina A&T had won the previous three years. Eaves' club advanced to the semifinals of the MEAC Tournament, where it lost a close game to even-tual champion Florida A&M.
And it could be like the old days this season. The Aggies return three starters and 11 letter-winners from last year's club. Everyone you talk to in the MEAC expects North Caro-lina A&T to be one of the teams to beat this year. Eaves expects his club to be a contender, as well.
''This year is a year where we definitely do have an opportunity,'' Eaves said. ''I think that we're one of the top three teams in the conference. That's the first time I've been able to say that in five years.''
EVEN THOUGH I'M AS FRUSTRATED AS THE NEXT, I CAN'T HELP BUT WONDER IF WE ARE BEING FAIR TO FOBBS. CONSIDERING WHAT HE HAD TO WORK WITH AFTER SMALL WAS LET GO, ARE WE GIVING HIM TIME TO BUILD HIS PROGRAM AS WE'VE GIVEN EAVES?? LET'S HEAR SOME CONSTRUCTIVE THOUGHTS ON THIS.

It's hard to defend 0-22.
I want Fobbs to be successful as much as anyone on this site, but at the end of the day he gets paid to win ballgames. He would give his supporters a lot more ammunition if he just got one W.

He's underachieved in my opinion, and badly.
But my opinion don't matter. Neither does anybody else's who posts here so this time next year expect to read all these feel good stories about the most incredible turnaround in school history...
...and then expect us to be bashing him again the year after that.

All I know is I'm tired of this losing. I haven't seen A&T win a game since Nov. 2003! Damn the excuses!

I think Coach Eaves Has made progress to building a winning program and won some games A coach is judge on W. Fobbs going 0-22 is not showing that he is capable of building a program.

Econgrad is Mr. Support (and that's his right). There is no excuse for 0-22. What does it take to be fair to this obvious loser. Even though the team will be older and we might get 1 or 2 wins next year, look how low Fobbs has lowered the bar!!! Eaves hasn't arrived yet. He had a great season last year considering the circumstances, but the MEAC is going to be better from top to bottom this year. He (Eaves) definitely is a bright spot for Aggie athletics though. If you want to see quality, check out the girls at 5:30 too. We have major talent with the girls.
But as far as football, Fobbs has become an embarassment. Doug Williams should come to "T" and apologize to the board of Trustees for this recommendation. The players should keep their heads up. You know, it's kind of like supporting the troops but wanting to get rid of Bush. lol

Plain and simple. There is nothing you can say to defend 0-22. Cant blame talent, money, recruiting budget, NOTHING. It's been teams in far worse shape financially or otherwise than A&T and didn't go 0-22. So I'm sick of hearing all the excuses. This man is horrible weather he goes or not. If he wins 6-8 games next year I am blaming it all on the teams talent level. I'm not giving this loser any credit unless he changes OCs.

only thing anyone can do for football... is be patient... as for fobbs being able to do what eaves is doing is not the question... the question is.. why isn't eaves getting the support fobbs is getting... because the key phrase in that article is bball plays a demanding schedule (money games).. that are CRUCIAL TO THE SURVIVAL OF THE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT... as an AD... you are jeopardizing the department by keeping bball's budget simular to corbett's 20yrs. ago... while you steadily bankrolling fobbs... that's not good business sense... because fobbs will not play the demanding schedule for the big payouts... & no-one at a&t has the creativity to get 35,000 plus people in aggie stadium...

You jsut cant give up on football and cut the budget. That makes no sense at all. i dont like the man either, but you cant cut footballs budget because of him.
I look at this as an opportunity for A&T to straighten out a lot of things that have been wrong with our Athletic department as a whole. It has taken 2 winless seasons for them to be brought to the light. As long as we were a decent team no one paid a lot of this stuff any attention.
1)We dont know how to promote. Aggie stadium should never have less than 16K at any game, no matter the opponent. No matter the night.
2)We dont know how to promote. Corbett should be standing room only for every home game. ESPNU or not! I love what they have done with Corbett atmosphere, but who knows about it outside of the Aggie faithful?
3)Start playing UNC, Duke Wake, and NC State again damnit! Those beat downs dont hurt recruiting. If anything they help. A kid gets the opportunity to drop 25 on UNC! He would jump at the chance. NCCU plays them this year and thats all they talk about. Not about how it's going to hurt their recruiting to get beat down. That's the most ridiculous statement ever made. Getting beat down by NCCU in football hurts recruiting, not lossing to UNC in basketball.
4)If you are going to play a div 1 school in Football for a payday schedule someone close like NC STATE, South Carolina, Duke, UNC, Clemson, or somebody. Stop getting these big paydays and spending half the money on travel. That makes no damn since either.
5)Stay off the West Coast for football! Was Cali really worth it?
6)Fund raising is terrible. Everyone always says, but the Victory Club and Aggie Club bring in some of the most money out of any HBCU. Damn that, We have so much alumni we should be bringin in twice as much. I dont get(nor do my Aggie alumni buddies) get jack in the mail/email/carrier pigion/ or horseback for contributing to athletics or the university. My wife's school(Catawba) hits her over the head via mail all the time. Even make you feel bad by posting who's in what club(by amount given). I go tot the Aggie club link and dont even know what benifits my money gets me.
Just venting

I agree, except for not liking Fobbs. I like the cat. I just don't care for his coaching skills.
I drove past the stadium last Friday night and I could see the empty panels from 29-North. Why we got the biggest t.v. in the triad and no selling? 16,000 people on average spend waaaay too much money to come out to watch a losing team and we can't convince anybody in the triad to buy a panel?
In the words of Keith Sweat, sumthin' sumthin', sumthin' sumthin' just aint riiiiiiight. It just ain't right.
Toss and turn girrrl I just caaan't sleep at night. Oooh you been cheating on me Tell me, it's a lie I call your home babe but the phone just keep on ranging ooh baby what do you think...
...damn, got carried away.
Anyway, I can't complain but so much because I've never tried to sell a half-assted product to tight-fisted professionals. I just have to wonder why. I won’t blatantly ask why because the last time I tried it I got igged by every person that could actually answer the question. So they will now be igged by me.
That being said, I wonder are people just happy getting a paycheck or are they trying and being rebuffed at every corner? I can say I usually get something from the Aggie Club even though I’ve been boycotting them for two years now. I also get a preseason “prospectus” in full-color newspaper form, albeit I receive it halfway through the season every year.
I haven’t gotten the blatant “please give the cheese” request that I see my wife get from her alma mater (a d-3 school in Maryland) or I get from Howard every three weeks.
Hopefully behind the scenes the infrastructure is improving. It wasn’t that long ago that I wouldn’t get anything but an occasional A&T fact book that supposedly comes out quarterly.

I agree, except for not liking Fobbs. I like the cat. I just don't care for his coaching skills. That's actually what I meant, never really talked to the man personally. The "Please just give us your cheese" actually works though. hsit, it worke HERE for the recruiting fundraiser didn't it? That wasn't a question, it did work. I haven't sold to corporations myself but I have worked in the marketing department. Marketing supports Sales in everything they do, so I can say that A&T is not handling marketing and sales correctly at all. None of the HBCUs are. I think that's why we all do the same stuff. The people in charge dont know any better. A&T is in the unique position of being the largest "Football" University in the area so they can use tactics that other HBCUs(or any university) cant. They could literally strong-arm companies in the area and the city of Greensboro. They just have to have people in place that know how to do it effectively. There is no way those panels should be available for as long as that scoreboard has been up. Did anyone ever find out how much a panel is worth?

That's why I say cut his budget immediately and spread the love to basketball. it's obvious that fobbs would not survive on hayes & small's budget... so cutting his budget wouldn't be a smart move... what you do say however is... enough is enough... if the scholarship limit is at the max... the recruiting budget is to a point where the coaches can recruit all over the nation... this is where you draw the line until there is drastic improvement... just recruiting nc... you are subjecting yourself to a small pool of players... even though i was against the small firing... i don't like to see coaches being handcuffed either... in my opinion... football is in great shape budget wise... bball is the budget that needs to be upgraded from here on out....
