Next man up....let's move on! My sentiments exactly. Plus I would like to see the older Keyes brother, Angelo Keyes step up into a prominent linebacker role this year. He will be a redshirt freshman, and was a beast in high school. AM & AG, I agree whole-heartedly. A&T has provided him with 3 years of scholarship, education & football. Thousands of high school players would love to have such opportunities and be grateful enough not to blow them by doing things that link them to drug manufacture and drug dealing.

I am sure Hinton and Martin are going to take charge of this and demand from broadway some answers. Because at the end of the day it happen on his watch and he's got to show more control over his players. I know he cannot be around them 24-7 but these guys have got to know you are young adults and held accountable and you will be terminated immediately if I find out any illegal actions. I mean if he was selling cocain who was he selling it to Football players? Do they take random blood test? I really think you are over reacting to the situation . The staff has done their job which was to suspend the player, which is all that they can do . They are not baby sitters , they cannot monitor the activities of close to 100 players off the field at all times . This guy lived off campus , do you think they are supposed to go around to all of the players who live off campus and watch them daily . Broadway's job is to coach them while they are at practice , and all team related functions ,and to make sure they attend class , period . Unfortunately students get into trouble all the time , if this was a student ,would you hold the Dean of his department accountable ,and demand answers from him as to why a student in his department broke the law ?

Every team has a bad egg or two and yes everyone is randomly drug tested on a regular basis . This happened on early Tuesday. We went into our camp without disruption. Mayes made the choice on his own to do what he allegedly did and he'll have answer for it. the coaches and the AD spell out the rules and the responsibilities of an athlete as the face of the university on Day One. Now while 99% of these youngsters take that message to heart some kids will make mistakes that are correctable, there is that 1 percent that never get it and don't care.
From what I was reading a few minutes ago the guy played in only four games and none in the last five contests of last season. His interest may have been elsewhere by then, So while its unfortunate news and embarrassing to some degree, the media seems to be treating it as a small news item worth about 24 hours of news worthiness so I'm not going to lose any sleep over his stupidity and neither will Broadway, Hilton, or Dr. Martin.
It is what it is. The lure of quick drug money on the streets with no lasting return to show for it but pain or death or both.

Based on what I know about this young man and his family, I am shocked! This is a great family and I know they are devastated by these allegations! Unfortunately, he will be considered guilty, until he can prove otherwise!

I don't recall knowing someone manufacturing cocain back in the day.
I think we all know that things like this goes on around us (somewhat a reflection of our society) but this notion that no one else on the team knew of this and one part did other football players played into this. It will not be a open and close case and lets just sweep it under the rug like everyone here wants it to be.
I am sure Martin wants answers because it reflects badly on the university and on the football team from a recruiting stand point.
NCCU had the same thing on there Men Basketball team.

trues, i don't see how broadway could be held accountable for the actions of this player. there's over a hundred guys associated with the football team, no way to monitor each and every one of them around the clock. what bad behavior we see on the football team is no different than the bad behavior we see from the overall student body in general. there's always gonna be a couple of bad apples on the football just like there are a few bad apples amongst our student body in general.
we just have to assure that these guys are disciplined properly and then move on. for sure, dealing drugs can't be tolerated...

THE COACH IS ALWAYS HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR HIS PLAYERS ACTION ON AND OFF THE FIELD. HE IS THE ONE WHO GAVE FINAL APPROVABLE FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF THE KID. TOUGH BUT THAT JUST THE WAY IT IS.THE COACH PROBABLY WON'T BE DISCIPLINE FOR THIS, BUT THEY WILL PUT HIM ON NOTICE TO CLEAN IT UP.

I think you right oldschoolaggie to a certain degree. But as a chancellor and AD. You want to make sure that the Head coaches and assistant dont turn a blind eye when they may see or hear things going on within there players. For instance if one of the guys come to practice and he act strange and have red blood shot eyes or he smell strange. You may want to call him in privily and not turn a blind eye.
But I am not going as for a Mr bigpete and say he is 100% responsible. Of course not. You can predict someones actions in the future nor be around them a 100%. But I do feel his staff need to be put on guard because you dont want it to go wide spread.
Does anyone knows if the NCAA requires blood or urine test on players. I know at St Aug. a player got kick off because they found drugs in his urine.

Granted Dr. Martin and Mr. Hilton can't just point fingers. But, if Coach Broadway isn't accountable for the football program, who is? I don't think you can carve out an exception when something bad happens.

I'd go a step further. I would have a questionnaire sent out to every player on the team and ask a few questions: 1) Is there a player on the team using steroids 2) Is there a player on the team using drugs 3) Is there a player on the team selling drugs 4) Is there a player on the team involved in any illegal activities
This questionnaire would be sent out to every player at least twice per year. It would not require a player to state his name. If multiple players mention the same name.....THE COACH HAS TO IMMEDIATELY SIT DOWN WITH THAT PLAYER AND QUESTION HIS ACTIVITIES. I wouldn't go overboard with one complaint, but if multiple players are singling out one player, how could you not take it seriously???
It's too difficult for the staff to know what each and every player is doing. It's already stressful enough for them to do and keep their jobs. However, such a questionairre could really help the staff know who are the more "high risk" players they need to keep a closer eye on.
