Thomas Stone G M.J. Briscoe commits to North Carolina A&T Posted by Eric Detweiler on May 7, 2013 at 1:27 pmThomas Stone guard M.J. Briscoe had to wait patiently until af ter his senior season to pick up his first Division I scholarship offer, but his marathon recruitment ended Monday with a sprint to the finish. Briscoe orally committed to North Carolina A&T this week, choosing the Aggies over Morgan State and a pair of late-charging suitors. The 6-foot-1 guard said Loyola (Md.) and Miami (Ohio) both stepped in with offers on Monday. The late offers “didn’t really affect me that much because in my mind, I had already decided where I was going,” said Briscoe, who plans to sign next week. “It just gave us something else to talk about and take into consideration.” For the rest of the story: www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/recr....h-car olina-at/ ********************** Getting Briscoe is a true steal this late in the year. Now we are officially done for the year. It's been one of our best recruiting classes we've had in a very long time. For highlights of M.J. Just being straight up.....Good last minute signing at this time of the year. One VERY important question: As the point guard can he run a team and be a playmaker by setting up his teammates? ? He averaged 19.3 per game. I am wondering can he get us 6-7 assists/game with a limited number of turnovers? That will be what we will need . Anything else will be just like grandma's gravy!!!!! ;D

He averaged 19.3 per game. I am wondering can he get us 6-7 assists/game with a limited number of turnovers? That will be what we will need . Anything else will be just like grandma's gravy!!!!! ;D I feel you on that concern. Briscoe dropped 18 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds in his final HS game. It's kind of hard to drop 10 assists in a 32-minute game unless a) you have a mindset to get the team involved and b) you have the skill set to do it. We didn't have anyone who had more than 8 assists in a 40-minute game this year. I'd say that's a skill set he has (ability to dribble penetrate and run the fast break) that he will develop even more with us. The reality is that very few players coming into the MEAC are high-level recruits with a full skill set. It's all about what a coach feels he can make out of the talent in 4 years. Bruce Beckford, the only one of the four freshmen to contribute last year, was a late signee by Coach Cy.... Look at how he turned out. Please try and remove the previous painful decade of Aggie Basketball from your memory and trust Coach Cy and his track record on recruiting. Briscoe played the 1 in high school and has a pretty impressive skill set. Coaching and skill set development will take over from there. Briscoe also is a full academic qualifier, which is really good. Like oleschool said, he mentioned the engineering program, so hopefully he has an interest to major in one of the disciplines. Not to take anything from Mike Reid, but that in itself to me makes Briscoe a better for for A&T and what we represent. Give Briscoe a year with Coach Cy's staff and the challenge of playing against Underwood and Middleton in practice (2 different styles, both will challenge him), and I believe Briscoe will be quite ready to lead this team through 2017... and graduate!
