Its not a shocking development... I hope the full investigation does not become public. That will be a disaster for SCSU based on the summary information that has been made available.

The investigation must be made public, they are a state supported school. Remember our own scandal after Rennick left , yes it was embarrassing, but necessary, to restore the confidence of the public.

The Cooper drama has been going on for a year or so. Last year, the BOT at SCSU gave him a vote of no confidence. The students protested and the board removed that vote. Ever since then its been rigid. They believe he is in over his head and not focusing on the issues that must be addressed to move SC State forward.

Don't you think secrecy is one the main reasons things like this happen? Whatever it is, it ain't good. When the University doesn't control the message, rumors will. Just look at the faces of the people in that picture, only one person is looking at him, she must be his wife. The rest are looking everywhere else, and thinking, I got to stand out here with this MOFO, damn, damn, damn!!

Also about two weeks ago he fired eight of his top administrators , including the chief of campus security ,and the person in charge of student affairs, no reason was given for the firings. A week later the chairman of the BOT resigned as chairman , he is still on the board.

Its my understanding that the SLED investigation is looking into the business ventures of one of the fired administrators and ultimately was "unbecoming of a state employee" and more importantly abusive of their role to protect students. SCSU had too many issues and this was just a mess.
I hope that a Charlie Nelms like figure can be found. A strong leader, an HBCU background... but had never had the chance to work at work one while pushing towards bigger and better things. Also, half of the BOT should resign.
