WSSU vs UCPa : YOU MAKE THE CALL.
WSSU champions from the CIAA will be challenged by California (Pa.)The Vulcans (9-2) and co champions from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division. Vulcans blank ECSU in first round, 44-0 and will be facing and undefeated 11-0 WSSU Rams for the first time ever. The Vulcans are lead by Junior running back Lamont Smith (Penn Hills, Pa./Central Catholic) and senior wide receiver Thomas Mayo (Reston, Va./South Lakes) each scored three touchdowns in the win over Elizabeth City State (N.C.) in the first round and Redshirt junior quarterback Peter Lalich (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) posted his third 300-yard game of the season, finishing with 357 passing yards on 26-of-34 attempts with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He became only the third 3,000-yard quarterback in school history and now ranks second with 3,344 yards this season. Lalich is also only one touchdown shy of becoming the third quarterback with 30 touchdown passes in a single-season.
Defense lead by Senior defensive lineman Thomas Mulabah (Sterling, Va./Parkview) tied his career high and led the team with nine tackles (two solo) with 2.0 sacks and one pass break-up. Redshirt freshman linebacker Spencer Lynn (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) posted eight tackles, while the trio of junior defensive back Greg Cochrane (Chandler, Ariz./Chandler), sophomore linebacker Brian Justice (Cape Coral, Fla. /Cape Coral) and junior defensive back Rontez Miles (Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) each finished with six stops. Miles, the 2011 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Defensive Player of the Year, registered his team-leading fifth interception.
WSSU is lead by running back Nicholas Cooper was named the Boxtorow National Player of the Week. The (SR, 5'11, 245),, played a huge role in WSSU's 38-18 victory over Elizabeth City State in the CIAA Championship Game. Cooper carried the ball 24 times for 163 yards and three touchdowns. And quarterback, Kameron Smith (JR, 6'0, 180, along with offensive linemen Markus Lawrence, Jr (JR, 6'4, 280, and Darrell Billiott (SR, 6'3, 340,and Offensive lineman, Daven Gray. All are also ALL CIAA frist team Selections
Defensive Player of the Year, Alton Keaton represents the Winston-Salem State University Rams, where he has finished the regular season with 78 total tackles (54 solo, 24 assisted),defensive lineman Akeem Ward; linebacker Carlos Fields kicker Alejandro Suarez were all named to the second team. Dominique Fitzgerald SR, 5'11, 195 is Special Teams Player of the Year. Fitzgerald tops the CIAA's Punt Return Average category- returning 15 for 296 yds and one TD. So gets you make the call??
