Mike Mayhew of North Carolina A&T was selected as the MEAC Football Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Onyemechi Anyaugo of Norfolk State was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Greg McGhee of Howard was selected as the Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week while Brent Walker also of N.C. A&T was named Offensive Lineman of the Week. N.C. A&T's Justin Ferrell was named Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively.
Mayhew (RB, 5-10, 210, Sr., Charlotte, N.C.) carried the ball 26 times for a conference season-high 233 yards with one touchdown as N.C. A&T captured its first conference win of the season with a 24-3 victory over Morgan State. Mayhew had seven runs of 10 or more yards including a 78-yard blast that gave the Aggies' their first score of the game. He also caught two passes for 15 yards.
Anyaugo (LB, 6-1, 225, r-Sr., Sterling, Va.) recorded a career high 13 tackles, six solo, with two for a loss of seven yards in the Spartans' 17-14 victory over South Carolina State. He returned a second-quarter fumble 84 yards for a touchdown to give the Spartans the lead over the 22nd-ranked Bulldogs.
McGhee (QB, 6-3, 200, Fr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) completed 11-of-17 passes for 152 yards and three touchdowns in Howard's victory over Savannah State. He also rushed the ball five times for a 40-yard gain with one TD to earn his third Rookie of the Week honor.
Walker (C, 6-2, 291, Sr., Durham, N.C.) graded out at 92-percent of his assignments as he anchored the Aggies' offensive line that accounted for 376 total yards. He collected four pancake blocks and aided the running corp with a season-best 232 yards on the ground.
Ferrell (CB, 5-9, 190. Sr., Danville, Va.) blocked two Morgan State field goals in the Aggies' 24-3 conference victory. He blocked a 47-yard attempt in the first quarter then followed up with a block on a 43-yard attempt in the second quarter to hold the Bears to three-points in their defeat.
