Can't he or does he e-mail that stuff to the N&R?
And do you think the idea of using students to assist in the department is feasable?

Holloway already has student interns that work in his office. However, there is only so much a unpaid, unseasoned college student can do in regards to media relations. You need full-time employees to do the heavy lifting required to operate a top-notched office. I believe our interns help out mostly with the administrative stuff around the office.

I just want to add my 2 cents....
We also have to understand the situation the N&R puts us in. I believe they dont assign a full time beat writer to NC A&T, even during the seasons. There were many occassions where they sent a stringer to cover mens BB. Not to mention the only consistent coverage we receive is for Football and mens BB. Believe you me there are numerous stories, press releases, etc that are sent out to app. 10-15 local print, television and radio media. It is to the discretion of the editor what is sent to print.
As far as student help. There has always been assistance from the English department. But as someone else said it is a limit to what the can do in the limited amount of time they can commit to the office daily or weekly.
Not to make excuses, but annualy we do have to compete with the BIG FOUR (UNC, Duke, NCSU, & WAKE) for attention from the local media, whether it be print or TV. On any given Saturday theres a possibly of at least two games on their slate & start times are critical.
NC A&T over the years have been begging for some assistance but no moneys have been made available but they have done a great job considering the circumstances. We know have a new website & Im sure you guys have noticed that the media is made available online as a .pdf. Many strives have been made over the past few years, and I believe it will continue to get better.
I guess the point of this thread print media, and to get back to that, I know phone calls have been made to offer possible stories. Usually for most schools it starts with an initial release by the SID office, which the local media then jumps on it & produces stories thereafter.
To me it's sad that for just about every other sport other than FB & BB most stories for A&T sports are typically found on the transaction page of the sports section & that may be just the boxscore, or you may find the occassional 2pt blurb.
I cant explain what the situation is with the N&R, but I do agree that if there is anything I see related to A&T I read the entire thing, no matter what the sport.

Thrilla, Don't be myopic(sp). BDV should have 3,000 registered members instead of 300 and until then there's a lot of work to do.
Or we can just take an ad out in the sports section of the News-Record saying if you want more A&T News go to bluedeathvalley.com. That may light a fire under the N&R and the Athletic Dept.

Man, Brian is great at what he does, I'm surprised he puts up with half the crap at A&T. I know I try to be of service to the athletic department when I can but I barely have time. JOMC students talk about wanting to be on ESPN and all this but when they need somebody to do something as small as run stats for the announcers or call in with score updates, they are nowhere to be found.
JOMC students don't come to the Register until they are in Practicum or until they are seniors that need bullsh*t clipsto gradyate. I recruit for the paper everyday but very few come through the door ready to work, they want the perks (access to a lot of places and information) but don't want to sit through a 15-minute staff meeting or write something every week, take the time to learn some design.
If I were at the N&R, I would rather cover Greensboro College football than us. I mean, Coach Fobbs doesn't strike me as having a dynamic personality, he's not going to give any other school bulletin board material or make a bold guarantee, and really who do we have coming back worth talking about? Lee Woodson? I got into an argument with one of our editors at the Register who was giving me Fobbs stories every week, NOBODY CARES ABOUT A WINLESS TEAMS, the students don't, administration doesn't why should the city of Greensboro care what were doing over on the Eastside. Win a game and you'll get a story...

Mike, The last paragraph is a very naive position to take. If you were the kind of journalist you say you are, you would find out every element of Fobbs' rebuilding plan and hold his feet to the fire in print until he makes it happen. I respect the work you did last year during the season, but throwing the team under the bus is uncalled for. The players are out there busting their butts. There are at least 38 new players on the team this year, what about them? When the editor of the Register doesn't give a d@amn about his fellow students, what kind of Aggie Pride is that? Maybe you won't really understand until you graduate. I have, so I do.

I guess that's my major focus right now. Why should I care what the News & Record is spending their time reporting on when I have my own media outlet to worry about.
I don't think the editors at the News & Record are busy having extensive conversations about bluedeathvalley.com

I'll admit that the comment was kinda harsh but seriously man, when you're getting mail from alumni and e-mails from students saying, who cares about football in the spring semester? Like we were using space we could have been putting softball, baseball, etc. for Fobbs stories, so it's like after reading so many you kinda feel the same way like "Why am I giving a half page to a winless team when we have two teams in the spring doing big things?" But definitely look for more coverage of the football team this year, along with game recaps, we'll be doing game previews so I think that will be a nice added feature.
Also, I wanted to get a feature together on BDF called "Aggie Pride Never Dies: For some alums A&T football is still a big deal" and it would go into the history of BDF, the mission, talk about the board and expose the site to a lot of people on campus. I've given my new sports editor a heads up, so it's his call (well it's mine but I'll let him decide) on when/where it runs.

I don't think the editors at the News & Record are busy having extensive conversations about bluedeathvalley.com Yet. ;D Don't sell yourself short. Remember when the N&R did an article and listed bdv.com as the A&T sports site? Haven't many of the articles on the N&R concerning A&T sports clearly gotten information from this site? Maybe the editors ain't having extensive discussions about bdv.com but they ain't silent on the issue either.

I still can't get over the shoddy coverage that the N&R gives us!!! I thought that I was the only one complaining.
I live in Tallahassee now, and the TLH Democrat does pretty good coverage of FAMU's money sports (football and men's & women's basketball), but it's not because they WANT to do it. Being in a town with Florida State is HELL!!
What worked around here is having average fans, like us, to keep calling the sports editor and insisting that they assign us a beatwriter who will cover us (almost) exclusively. Hit them everyday on the phone and with faxes. Until that happens, it won't change.
Secondly, the beatwriter has to be self-motivated. They might assign a guy who is lazy and will only cover home games on gameday.
Thirdly, they have to allow the beatwriter to travel to ALL road football games. In fact, FAMU has TWO beatwriters that travel when on the road.
Last month, the TLH Democrat hired a new sports editor...and he is a FAMU grad. That is why things have picked up greatly on Rattler coverage over the past 30 days.
Keep pounding them!!
