After looking at some of the many comments from FAMU fans about their inability to win a title ever since Bill Hayes and President Ammons brought Taylor down from Hampton, His teams have not been that impressive and many are looking to the end of his contract next year and an extension doesn't seem likely to come if he doesn't win the MEAC before then.
As bad as we have been offensively, we should have beaten them the last two years even though they had more talent and depth. The question is now on the floor.
Has the Joe Taylor show finally jumped the shark? Is he past his prime? And will the FAMU fans call for his head if either A&T or NCCU get a MEAC title before he does within the next two years?

In my opinion, he's as overrated as Bill Hayes.
He pretty much walked into a mess at FAMU. Giving him a huge salary didn't change that (sound familiar?). He's gone 9-3, 8-3, and 8-3. They went 3-8 the year before he arrived. They were also only one of two teams to beat BCU this year.
He has the third-best winning percentage in the history of Rattler football behind Jake and former Aggie coach Bill Bell. And he hasn't lost to BCU or won less than eight games.
Really, his only failure has been his inability to extricate a certain bulldogs' paw from the rattler rectum. But we pretty much all have that same problem.
Great topic for discussion, but, naw.

Well, he did win a share of the MEAC title last season. I don't get the FAMU folks. They feel about Taylor the same way GSU folks felt about Broadway. That usually means they would rather have someone with ties to the school.

FAMU Alumni and fans have very high expectations. With that being said, FAMU makes the playoffs this year.
I may be a little nuts but Coach Taylor reminds me of App. State Coach Jerry Moore. I think Coach Taylor will finally get over his hump and break that decade's long losing streak in the playoffs for the MEAC. They finally have that QB that will play consistent enough and I think Coach JT knows how to win the close game.

WC, you know Taylor's only playoff win came against Albany State when he was at Hampton?
He might make the playoffs, but winning there is as alien to him as a Klingon. He's been in a better position to win in the playoffs than any d-1 hbcu coach ever. He had a home game with a fifth-year senior qb and multiple draft picks on the team, and still lost (reminds me of Broadway at NCCU when they lost at home). The way the finances are completely skewed nowadays, I honestly believe the MEAC saw its last playoff victory in 1999.
Decks hit it on the head. The Rattlers would rather lose with a Rattler than win with anybody else.

...Decks hit it on the head. The Rattlers would rather lose with a Rattler than win with anybody else. I'm a proud and financially-supportive Aggie alum who has worked in FAMU Athletics for many years since graduating from A&T (excluding an 18-year gap while working in pro sports), and I can honestly say that statement is not true for FAMU Football. No Rattler alum has been very successful as their head football coach. "Big Bill" Bell, "Jake" Gaither, Rudy Hubbard and Billy Joe were all alums of other colleges.

I have never seen a more-spirited love-and-hate relationship than the one I witnessed between BILL HAYES and JOE TAYLOR. (LOL!!)
THE LOVE: We took a couple of five-day trips around the state of Florida (Tampa, St. Petersburg, Orlando, Fort Myers, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Jacksonville) and all that they did was go back-and-forth with each other about their football games against each other. I never laughed more in my life! (All they needed was Coach Willie Jeffries for it to be "complete," according to them.)
THE HATE: Taylor hated Hayes being his boss and having the last word on a lot of decisions. Hayes wasn't too keen on some of Taylor's on-the-field decisions, and hated watching him coaching in games (so he would find other things to do during a home game to keep from watching).
