Between 240 - 260 members?
That's great to hear.
Props to Dr. Ruff & Co! This makes me want to send the Marching Machine a check.

Its a shame the home schedule probably won't see any visiting bands besides Central....but then again....that makes the october road trips that much more necessary

I would hope the Machine would bring the band to that game since they would probably not bring them to Norfolk during their Homecoming.

i'll be at both the norfolk and howard road games. love it when the machine is also on the road wherever i am! they won't have very much room to sit at howard's homecoming, green only seats about 10k. but norfolk's stadium seats 30k, plenty of seats will be available there...

oleschoolaggie: Don't football subdivision schools have a stadium seating requirement of 20k and above?? i'm not sure, but i can check. i think that's an fbs standard, not an fcs standard. a&t, scsu, famu, and nsu are the only meac stadiums that seat more than 20k. dsu and ssu stadiums both seat less than 9k and i definitely don't see either of them expanding to 20k plus. howard, bethune, morgan, and nccu stadiums seat about 10k to 12k, and hampton claims to seat 17k but i think its a lot less than that. i think the fbs "use to" have a minimum stadium capacity of 30k and a minimum attendance average of 15k. but i think those requirements have been changed in recent years. i'll have to check and see...

To maintain FBS status, a school must average 15,000 in paid or actual attendance a game at least once every two seasons. The NCAA used to require Division I-A schools to have a stadium with a minimum capacity of 30,000, but that rule was scrapped in 2004. FCS has no attendance requirements Read more: Division 1 College Football Requirements | eHow.com www.ehow.com/list_6660709_division-1-college-football-requirements.html#ixzz1VJDQUVHj

hey, does anybody remember back in '93 at our homecoming, howard's band was forced out of the stands due to an overflow crowd and had to "stand up" to play where they were seated "in the back of the end zone"? i was doing some research this morning and ran across this write up from the meacsports website... The 1993 Howard-North Carolina A&T contest is at the top of the list. It was homecoming for North Carolina A&T. Both teams were undefeated and ranked in the Sheridan Black College poll, and they had received votes in the NCAA Division I-AA weekly poll. BET televised the game live, adding it to its schedule two days before it was to be played. Howard Sports Information Director Ed Hill remembers arriving at a sold out stadium 2 ½ hours before kickoff and being met by 5,000 fans in the parking lot who couldn't buy tickets.
The crowd - which included Aggie alumnus Jesse Jackson - was so large that the Howard marching band was forced to give up its seats and played standing in the end zone the entire game.
Howard led 21-7 early in the game, but the Aggies rallied to go ahead 35-21 going into the fourth quarter. Howard came back and tied the score 35-all, and the game went into overtime. Howard won the coin toss and chose to start the overtime period on defense. The Bison forced North Carolina A&T to attempt a field goal, that was wide right.
On first down, Howard quarterback Jay Walker called an audible at the line of scrimmage when he saw that North Carolina A&T's defense was over shifted, and he ran 25 yards untouched for the winning touchdown.

One of the best HBCU games ever!! The atmosphere of the crowd and the play on the field. I will never forget it. I can still see the crowd of fans surrounding the field on the track and both end-zones!! What a game!!!
