Durham, NC (Sports Network) - North Carolina Central has called a news conference for Thursday afternoon and is expected to introduce former Prairie View A&M football coach Henry Frazier as its new head coach.
Frazier stepped down on Monday after seven seasons at Prairie View. He went 43-30 during his tenure with the Panthers and was named the 2009 Eddie Robinson Award recipient as the top coach of the Football Championship Subdivision.
During the 2009 season, Frazier led Prairie View to the Southwestern Athletic Conference title for the first time since 1964.
North Carolina Central will begin play in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference next season. In 2010, the Eagles fired Mose Rison after a 2-4 start and assistant coach Darryl Bullock took over for the final five games, winning once, in a 3-8 overall finish.

We better hire someone equal or better. This coach can build a program. NCCU is 'serious'.

Henry Frazier named NC Central's new head football coach Posted: Today at 4:49 p.m. Updated: Today at 7:16 p.m.
North Carolina Central University named former Prairie View A&M head coach Henry Frazier the Eagles new head football coach Thursday.
“I’m excited about NCCU and what it has to offer,” Frazier said Thursday. “I’m ready to roll.”
Frazier stepped down from his coaching position at Prairie View A&M Monday after going 43-30 in seven seasons.
Frazier said he has three phases of goals he would like to achieve at Central. In the first one or two years, he hopes to reach a winning record. In phase two, the Eagles will target the MEAC championship. By phase three, five years out, Frazier said his team would be winning playoff games and compete for a national championship.
Frazier was named the 2009 Eddie Robinson Award recipient as the top coach of the Football Championship Subdivision after taking the Panthers to the Southwestern Athletic Conference title for the first time since 1964.
After firing head football coach Mose Rison from the position mid-season following a disappointing 2-4 start, the school had assistant coach Darryl Bullock take over on an interim basis for the rest of the season.
Frazier's staff has not been announced and Bullock's job status at North Carolina Central is unknown.
Frazier will be the program’s 21st head football coach, his appointment is a five-year term beginning Jan. 1, with an annual salary of $225,000.

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, $200,000 per year is the going rate. It's time for our administration to either "poop or get off the toilet," guys.

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, $200,000 per year is the going rate. It's time for our administration to either "poop or get off the toilet," guys. It's the going rate for HBCU's which I think is ridiculous. PWC's with far more accomplished programs often pay thier coaches less. Jerry Moore with App State gets $170,000 plus whatever he brings in from his camp. New Hampshire who just beat BCU in the playoffs pay thier coach $165,000. Elons, Pete Lembo reportedly earns $125,000. NCCU just gave Frazier a $1.125 million contract over 5 years! I'm sorry but that's just excessive for a program with a budget smaller than ours.

I agree way to much coin.
Thats why I still say hire Maynor give him $120k which equates to a 45k raise for him. Use the rest to hire the best assitants we can get. I am talking paying off. and def. coord.'s 80K - 90k.

(You could find some pretty damn fine coordinators and position coaches beating down our doors )...true, will whoever is hired go after the d*** fine oc and dc or just pay the guy they bring with them the $$$? Would Lee have had a different oc or dc if he could have paid $80-90k? The coach at Jackson State paid his oc $94 k, he was the oc with him at Tuskegee. Just wondering...........

My expectation is the next head coach will already be a younger current head coach from another school who has a turnaround history with programs and accustomed to working with smaller budgets and would bring the bulk of his staff with him.

Four Prairie View assistants follow Frazier to NC Central By RONNIE TURNER For the Chronicle Dec. 20, 2010, 9:14PM
Prairie View A&M football coach Heishma Northern will have a few more staff vacancies to fill after four offensive assistants left to join former coach Henry Frazier III at North Carolina Central.
Northern said Monday that offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Michael Bryant, running backs coach/recruiting coordinator Dwayne Foster, tight ends coach Roy Jones and wide receivers coach Lamar Manigo had stepped down to follow Frazier. Like Frazier, all four are natives of the Washington, D.C./Baltimore area and will be closer to home with their new jobs.
“Some of those guys had been with coach Frazier since they were in high school or at (Bowie State), so I knew it was going to be hard to keep them,” said Northern, who previously served as defensive coordinator/associate head coach. “I did make a good run at them, and unfortunately it didn’t work out. But their departure creates an opportunity for someone else.”
Harry Williams, a former Texans wide receiver, was promoted from offensive student assistant to wide receivers coach, and Brian Morgan, once an assistant at North Texas, was hired to coach tight ends and kickers.
Northern said he would probably name a defensive coordinator by Wednesday.
