Brandon Ringgold was trying to make a tackle when he suffered the injury. Greensboro, NC -- A football player at North Carolina A&T is at the hospital after being injured at an afternoon scrimmage. It happened around 2 p.m. Saturday at the Aggies' stadium. Linebacker Brandon Ringgold went in to tackle runningback Chaz Truesdale. Truesdale says Ringgold's helmet hit him in the chest. Ringgold was motionless on the field for 15 minutes before rescue crews took him to Moses Cone Hospital. The scrimmage continued after the delay, and players were told more details about the injury after the scrimmage in the locker room. According to a previous roster, Ringgold is from Aberdeen and Pinecrest High School. He was a freshman on the Aggie team in 2004. Safety Brandon Ringgold, who missed all of last season, went to make a tackle on Aggies running back Chaz Truesdale for a loss, but after the tackle Ringgold laid motionless on the Aggie Stadium field. After the scrimmage head football coach Lee Fobbs told reporters Ringgold had feelings in his hand and his feet.

The latest news appears his motion and feeling has begun returning to both his arms and legs. It appears he sufferd a jammed neck or possible ruptured disc which would require surgery.

I just talked to a couple players in Wal-Mart, they said he had emergency surgery but should be cool, they are cleaning out the fifth vertebrae, it broke or burst of something, they were telling me the same thing happend to M. Jackson three years ago...
The fifth vertebrae is the lumbar vertebrae are the largest segments of the movable part of the vertebral column, and can be distinguished by the absence of a foramen (hole) in the transverse process, and by the absence of facets on the sides of the body.

A ruptured disc. I had the same operation two years ago in the very same spot. It takes six weeks to heal and another month or for me two months of rehab to get full range back. They most likely replaced it with the plastic disc and a couple of holding screws.
Big thing he has going for him is his young age. His rehab should be much quicker than mine and should heal faster but he's going to be real sore for a while.
Thank goodness it wasn't worse and had to have a fushion like mine.

It is the parents request that no information concerning their son be released until they are ready to do so. So if you hear silence coming from the Department of Athletics, it is at the request of the parents. The young man is doing a lot better.
