HIGHLIGHTED WITH ANGEL CITY CLASSIC
PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The 2007 Prairie View A&M University football schedule is highlighted with the addition of the Angel City Classic on Sept. 8 in Los Angeles, Calif. The upcoming schedule also includes the annual Labor Day and the State Fair Classics and three home contests. One additional home game will be added prior to the start of the 2007 season.
The Panthers will kick off the season with back-to-back classics. Prairie View A&M will open its season with its big Southwestern Athletic Conference game on Sept. 1 against arch rival Texas Southern in the 23rd annual Labor Day Classic at Houston’s Reliant Stadium. Following the season opener, Prairie View will travel to the west coast to take on North Carolina A&T in the Angel City Classic in a non-conference match-up.
“We are elated to have an opportunity to participate in the Angel City Classic,” said PVAMU athletic director Charles McClelland. “We are working on some minor details with classic officials and expect to finalize everything by mid April.”
The next weekend the Panthers return to league competition with a trip to Baton Rouge, La. on Sept. 16 to face Southern. According to McClelland, the Panthers are currently negotiating a home game for Sept. 22. On Sept. 29, Prairie View will travel to Dallas to take on Grambling State in the annual State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl.
The month of October will begin with consecutive road games against SWAC opponents. On Oct. 6, the Panthers will travel to Alcorn State, Miss. to face Alcorn State. The next weekend, Oct. 13, they travel to Montgomery, Ala. to play Alabama State. Following the two game road trip, PVAMU will take a weekend off before hosting Mississippi Valley State for its annual homecoming festivities on Oct. 27.
The team will close out competition in November with three consecutive conference foes. They open on the road in Pine Bluff, Ark. for a Nov. 3 contest against the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. The Panthers will end the 2007 season with back-to-back home games. On Nov. 10, Prairie View will return to the friendly confines of Blackshear Field to host Jackson State at 1:00 p.m. One week later, the Panthers will close out the regular season on Nov. 17 when they host Alabama A&M at 4:00 p.m. The Alabama A&M game will coincide with the 2007 SWAC Women’s Volleyball Championship, hosted by PVAMU during the day at the William Nicks Building.
