AREA COLLEGE STUDENTS TO MARCH TO THE POLLS IN DOWNTOWN GREENSBORO THIS THURSDAY, OCTOBER 21TH
The Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice at NCAT in collaboration with Join Me Entertainment, the A&Tea Party Movement, and Common Cause North Carolina is organizing a “March to the Polls” and rally for the students of North Carolina A&T State University and Bennett College for Women during early voting this Thursday, October 21, 2010. The rally will take place at the City Hall Plaza in front of the old courthouse.
When: The march and rally is scheduled for Thursday, October 21, 2010 from 3pm to 7pm.
Where: Participants are asked to meet at the A&T Four Statue in front of the Dudley Museum on North Carolina A&T’s Campus.
March route: The students will start at Dudley Street and University Drive, cross Dudley and continue towards Market Street. They will take a right at Market Street and continue towards Murrow Blvd. Walking down Friendly Avenue, they will head straight until they reach Commerce Place. There they will make a left, continuing through Market Street to the Courthouse at 201 S Eugene St. Students will not be marching in the street.
Greensboro area colleges have been working together since the 2008 election to ensure that not only the student vote, but the student voice is heard in North Carolina democracy. “We want students to understand that voting is not a once every four year endeavor,” said Sierra Morton, President of the Student Government Association at Bennett College. “We want students to become lifelong participants in our democracy.”
• Same day voter registration laws allow anyone, including students, to register and vote early as long as they bring proper identification and proof of residency in that county.
