An assistance fund has been set up for Charles Watkins, the campus photographer at N.C. A&T, who is in need of a kidney and possibly a new heart. Watkins, 48, who continues to work, was born with a kidney disorder and wasn’t expected to live past the age of 12. Doctors say Watkins, who is now on daily dialysis, manages to accomplish things that other people with his illness might not be able to do. Inquiries after a News & Record story last month prompted A&T’s Office of University Relations to set up an account at the Bank of Oak Ridge. www.news-record.com/content/2010/10/18/article/fun_set_up_for_ailing_nc_at_photographer
