Swimming Team Participates In Volunteer Day Courtesy: NC A&T Sports Information Release: 09/30/2010
GREENSBORO - The North Carolina A&T swimming team participated in its first volunteer project of the season at Habitat for Humanity's Restore Center on High Point Road. The Aggies moved more than 300 doors to assist in remolding the store. The effort helped the organization better provide services to the community.
In the spirit of competition, the team divided into three groups to organize the doors based on style and appearance. The team who moved the most doors won the contest. The three teams separated to strategize.
After completion, the store manager approved and thanked the Aggies for their help and hard work. Captains from each team shared their positive and negative strategies.
Junior Jasmine Gurley's team won the contest. "I admired how my group not only filled the cart, but also carried extra doors by hand," said Gurley. "That definitely helped us get ahead."
Senior Keshia McDonald praised her team's hard work and sophomore Lauren Bowling appreciated the good communication on her team.
Head coach Shawn Hendrix commented: "This was our first team volunteer project for the season and it was not easy. The doors were dirty with old spider webs and some were heavy. Nevertheless, I never heard one team member complain. I was most proud of their positive attitude which created an environment for great team work! They are all winners to me! We ended with the freshmen's first "AGGIE PRIDE!"
The team travels to Radford, Va., for its first meet against Radford University on Friday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m.
