Not a real big surprise but still.... www.nccueaglepride.com/news/2010/9/3/FB_0903104801.aspx?path=footballDURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – A near capacity crowd took part in North Carolina Central University’s first Thursday night football game in 44 years, and the fans were treated to the second-largest victory in NCCU history. The host Eagles took advantage of five Johnson C. Smith University turnovers and cruised to a 59-0 season-opening victory in front of an announced crowd of 9,257 inside O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium in Durham, N.C. The shutout was NCCU’s first in three seasons (Sept. 8, 2007 – NCCU def. St. Augustine’s 6-0) and the biggest margin of victory since an 85-0 win over Fort Jackson to open the 1946 campaign (Sept. 21, 1946). The Eagles amassed 362 yards of total offense, including 239 yards on the ground. NCCU junior quarterback Keon Williams, who entered the contest with one career touchdown pass, threw four touchdown strikes on 14-of-22 passing for 110 yards on Thursday. Junior fullback Justin Manning caught the first two passes of his Eagle career and he took both to the end zone. Junior tight end Earthan Ward and sophomore receiver Lamar Whidbee also caught touchdown passes, while senior Tim Shankle and............................................................ www.nccueaglepride.com/news/2010/9/3/FB_0903104801.aspx?path=football

'Compliance issue' keeps Johnson out Eagles' opener 09.02.10 - 11:43 pm By Joe Johnson jjohnson@heraldsun.com; 419-6667 DURHAM -- Presumed starting quarterback Michael Johnson and about 10 other NCCU players were held out of Thursday's season-opening victory over Johnson C. Smith. NCCU sports information director Kyle Serba said the players had not been cleared by the NCAA for game participation under continuing eligibility requirements. Serba cited federal student privacy laws and would not elaborate on the specific reasons the players may not have been cleared by the NCAA. "The players were not cleared by the NCAA," Serba said. "Every player has to be cleared by the NCAA each year before they can play." Serba said none of the players who were held out are part of any type of investigation but rather they were caught up in a bureaucratic NCAA process. NCCU coach Mose Rison called Johnson's situation "strictly a compliance issue." "It's no big deal and should be cleared up, if not [Friday] for sure on Monday," Rison said. "[It's] no big deal, and he'll be good to go." © heraldsun.com 2010 www.heraldsun.com/printer_friendly/9370990

I went to this game. NCCU threw the ball over the middle and took advantage of forced turnover. The caused fumbles, blocked punts all of that. They looked like they should have, a MEAC school with depth vs J.C Smith. I did however, like Smith's spread offense. Penetlies stalled many of their drives.
The Vibe was nice. The Chancellor went into the student section and got them going. It was a good look. The place was packed.
It will be crazy whenever A&T comes, as the reserved seats are on BOTH sides it seems, at the 50 yard line. So the Aggies will surround the Eagles on the visitors side. It will be tight!

JC Smith put on a horrible display of tackling and inept offense. At least 3 Defensive TDs for NCCU!
They were REALLY over matched and out coached. That weak a$$ fake dive roll out worked EVERY TIME. Our DE will knock their QB on his arse!

i guess that's why we call them the dirty birds.
As for the game JCSU is horrible. They would not even stand a chance against some of the big Texas high schools. I will say for Central to totally dominate missing 10 players is some what impressive. Also their o-line looked pretty lean not alot height though
