Greensboro native and Grimsley High School graduate; bachelor’s degree from Davidson College; and law degree with honors from UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law. Assistant professor of public law and government at the Institute of Government in Chapel Hill 1976-82: Private law practice in Greensboro 1981-83: Guilford County Democratic Party chairman 1982-84: Served as an aide to U.S. Rep. Robin Britt 1984-2000: Appointed by Gov. Jim Hunt to fill the Guilford Superior Court judgeship vacated by Judge Charles T. Kivett. At 33, he was the youngest among 67 Superior Court judges. 1988: Appointed by Chief Justice James Exum of the N.C. Supreme Court to the Legislative Study Commission on Judicial Selection. Served as chairman of the Guilford County Substance Abuse Study Committee and as a member of the Guilford County Corrections Commission. 2001-07: Executive director of the Z. I have known the man personally for many years and he is a 1000% percent improvement over his predecessor.
