AGGIES SWEEP WEEKLY HONORS
GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T baseball team swept all three MEAC weekly honors last week after improving to 6-0 in the MEAC with a sweep of Florida A&M over the weekend.
Fifth-year senior James Howard earned his first career weekly honor by being named MEAC Player of the Week. Alex Grubb also collected his first weekly honor from the conference as he was named MEAC Rookie of the Week. Sophomore Esterlin Paulino closed out the trio’s triumphant week by being named MEAC Pitcher of the Week.
Howard hit .500 for the week, compiled three doubles, scored nine times and drove in seven runs. Howard went 5-for-6 on Sunday with five runs scored and four RBIs to help the Aggies defeat Florida A&M. Howard is a graphics communications major out of Atlanta, Ga. He has won the athletics department’s Male Scholar Athlete of the Year award twice after posting a 4.0 grade point average each time.
Grubb has also been a big part of the Aggies’ success in the conference. His week included two doubles, two home runs, five RBIs and a .500 batting average. Grubb hit a two-run home run on Saturday and Sunday. Grubb pulls double duty for the athletics department. In the fall, he serves as the Aggies punter.
Paulino put together another strong performance in conference play. Paulino went eight innings against Florida A&M on Friday. In the process, he gave up just six hits and three walks while not surrendering an earned run and striking out eight. In 14.1 innings pitched in conference play, Paulino has compiled a miniscule 1.88 ERA with 14 strikeouts.
The Aggies return to conference action this weekend when they face Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Wildcats have won four straight MEAC titles.
