for those critics who say the meac should return to division 2, this article is particularly for you!! it is rather "stunning" to read a sports article in the washington post (one of the most prestigious newspapers in america) that describes the meac as, and i quote, "the nationally dominant MEAC, which comprises 11 historically black colleges and universities"! wow! read the article, i ain't lying! i'm serious! they are describing the meac women's bowling teams (yes, that's teams with an "s") as "nationally dominant"!and here's why! umes, the 2008 national champion, is the meac's flagship bowling program that's currently ranked 2nd in "in the nation" and get this, delaware state (the meac's defending champion) is ranked 3rd "in the nation" and made the ncaa division 1 semifinals last spring! and ya'll ain't gonna believe this! it literally "floored" me! there are a total of "5" meac schools (yep, count 'em!) including famu, norfolk, and morgan that are ranked in the top 20!! we're talkin' 5 meac teams ranked in the top 20 at the division 1 level alongside national powers vanderbilt and nebraska!a lot folks up in here criticize the meac an awful lot. well, ya'll need to read this article in its entirety! perhaps you'll have a different outlook on our hbcu conference... www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/03/10/AR2010031001735.html

yeah, but for once, the meac came up with a brilliant strategy. hbcu's have not been successful in the major sports at the d1 level largely because we can't compete with the pwc's financial resources. so the meac did something very smart. they found a sport that only a few big time schools were even paying attention to and dumped a few dollars into it. and because of it, the meac now leads the nation in women's bowling. i think that's a big deal even though its a minor sport...

But ... you're just talking about bowling, right? We used to think bowling was important at A&T.
