I think its a three year deal. Always thought it was a horrible idea from the start. It was too soon to move it to Winston without NCCU and WSSU being officially in the tournament. Now WSSU is out and NCCU not being eligible next year(i think?) the tournament has to rely heavily on A&T fans to hold it up. With the state of our program...........good luck with that.
MEAC committee(or whoever is in charge) hasn't really shown me the smallest bit of common sense sense I started giving a damn about the MEAC tournament.

Another early upset:
The Morgan women just lost to Bethune, 52-63.
Looks like Hampton is the favorite to take it all now.

They should just invite the top eight women and men's team and make it a 3-day tournament.
Fans are not taking off work to see these Tuesday through Thursday games.
Plus it would give the regular season more value.

That sounds like a good idea.

The conference is wasting too much manpower and resources to have a tournament start on Tuesday and last until Saturday night.
You could drastically cut down on arena rental fees, travel cost and hotel room accommodations by having your tournament begin on Friday morning and last through Sunday afternoon.
The first two days would be jammed backed with games, but you would have better overall attendance because fans from out of town could take a day off work and make plans to attend the whole tournament.

Plus imagine all the drama that would occur during the final week of the regular season leading up the tournament, as teams fight to get in the top 8.

The MEAC Tornament needs to be shortened and the winner should be going to the NIT or WNIT. We need our regular season champs to represent us in the Big Dance.

Ole school, it's 3 years not 2. Isn't this the first year in Winston? We move so much I've lost track. Wouldn't that make it 2013 when its some where else?

I agree, but squeezing in Men's and Women's in 3 days would be very tough. a tournament with just men is normally 3 days. That extra 2 days cant be costing them that much. Who is using Joel on a Weds? I do agree the Championship should be on Sunday. We(meaning black folk) still equate large sporting events with partying, so the championship has to be on Saturday in most peoples eyes. your right Thrilla, I've been blocking the tournament out since we have been so horrible.

the only problem with that idea is that it could substantially reduce overall attendance if certain schools don't make the final 8. those schools would be eliminated from participating in the tournament and none of their fans would bother showing up. for example, the meac needs a&t's fans every year regardless to how we place in the standings. if a&t isn't eligible for the tournament, the meac would lose perhaps its largest fanbase before the tournament even begins. every year the meac would risk losing its largest fanbases if certain schools aren't eligible for the tournament. the bottom 5 or 6 schools wouldn't bother making plans to go to the tournament until they knew for sure their team would be eligible. that would seriously hurt "advanced" ticket sales and hotel reservations.
what they probably could do is move the first 2 rounds to a smaller venue. i thought that's what they would use the lvjm annex for. but i think it would be very risky to only include the top 8...

Thursday night attendance was reported at 7,677 fans. That is very good. If true, this is probably the best Thursday Tourny attendance in decades.

I would love to see what the advanced ticket sales and hotel reservations look like this year. I don't think folks from Delaware and Florida invested a lot of money ahead of time to attend the MEAC tournament.
I would anticipate that most of the attendees are local or folks who bough their tickets and reserved their hotel room just days prior to arriving into town.
Hell, you can get a ticket to the ACC men's tournament this year for next to nothing, so I know the MEAC did not sell a lot of tickets in advance.
