I'm not a historian, but can anyone think of a true freshman in any sport during any era that was better than Amber Calvin? Her basketball IQ and big play ability is simply off the charts.

I also loved to play with someone who could pass (sand-lot). The game just becomes easier.

I have nicknamed her "RED"...because she can light up your azz with the pass, the dribble and the shot!

She's unflappable. Lots of composure for a freshman.

What did Mia Glover do as a freshman? She was inj,?? Tweet Cook? Rookie of the year...Malveata Johnson ( all time leading scorer) Camile Akins, Do not see how you can compare her to Alan Hooker, Joe Binion, C.J.Beatty, Lonnie Harris, Waymon Pitts, Mitchell Twin, Leevery Covington....

Amber plays with more composure than any senior on the team. She is by far the best freshman to play on our women's team and maybe on any team, men or women. Right now she is playing, I feel, better than anyone in the MEAC (WBB). She should be a lock for rookie of the year and maybe even player of the year. Keep up the good work Amber!!! ;D

Right now, she is the best player on the best team in the MEAC. Therefore, she should earn some serious consideration for MEAC player of the year.

She's a freshman with a few flaws, but truly a gifted player. Numberonebrave is correct, there have been other outstanding freshmen who have worn the BLUE & GOLD (Attles, Sparrow, Cambridge, Taylor, Boyd, Brawner, Howell, Marshal, McHarley, Davis, Harris, etc) to name a few. She deserves all the accolades given, tremendous passer, but also plays with Smalley who even with her size is an outstanding passer and player with a high basketball IQ. Cook is an outstanding performer (could not win without her). She should be all rookie MEAC, and will probably contend for first team ( needs to get scoring avg up).

i don't know if she's the best freshman ever, tweet was pretty good when she was a freshman too. but saturday against dsu on one fast break, i seen amber calvin do a "no look" touch pass to tweet for a layup while hanging in mid air. maybe we should give her magic's nickname...

She does that quite often and so does Smalley (wants to be a pg). One of our smartest pgs is Alford. "Magic" would be appropriate.

I've heard from old heads that Malveata Johnson dominated from the day she stepped on the court until the day she left it.

Is it a little early to crown her the greatest ever, when the there is still so much basketball to be played this season? 7 more regular season games, the MEAC tournament, and a possible run in a post season tournament. Wait until they cut down some nets first!
But I am just as excited as the rest of yall with her potential!

in the first half against umes, she did a ridiculous "left handed" scoop layup from the right side of the basket while in traffic! and in the 2nd half, she did another ridiculous "reverse layup" from the left side of the basket, "again" while in traffic!
this young lady is truly special! she's doing some things that most of eaves' guys can't do...
