MEAC Announces Women's Basketball Weekly Honors
North Carolina A&T junior Jaleesa Sams was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Hampton's Breanna Jones earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Florida A&M's Qiana Donald earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
Sams (Forward, 5-11, Jr., New Castle, Pa.) recorded a career-high 25 points while shooting 72-percent from the field (16-of-22) and 50-percent from 3-point range (1-of-2) in two conference victories last week. She averaged a double-double of 21.0 points and 10.5 rebounds to aid her team in the wins. Sams was 9-of-10 from the free-throw line (90-percent) and added 21 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and four steals.
Jones (Forward, 6-0, Fr., Springfield, Va.) totaled 17 points and grabbed 24 rebounds in two conference wins for the Lady Pirates last week. Against Morgan State Jones posted seven points, 15 rebounds, two blocks and two steals. She followed that performance with 10 points and nine rebounds against Norfolk State.
Donald (Guard/Forward, 6-0, So., Jacksonville, Fla.) pulled down 24 rebounds, blocked five shots and tallied two steals to two conference match-ups last week. Offensively, she contributed eight points and two assists.

Corin Adams (MSU) averaged 20.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 3.0 assists in two games for the Lady Bears.
Antonia Bennett (FAMU) totaled 27 points and 16 rebounds to guide the Lady Rattlers to a 1-1 mark last week.
Marion Brooks (NSU) shot 40-percent from the field and tallied 12 points and 17 rebounds in two games for the Spartans.
Zykia Brown (How) averaged 17.5 points, five rebounds and three steals to aid Howard to a 1-1 mark last week.
Portia Deterville (How) totaled 15 points and 13 rebounds in two games for the Lady Bison.
Saadia Doyle (How) recorded her 10th double-double of the year with 29 points and 14 rebounds in a loss to North Carolina A&T.
Tiana Hemphill (SCSU) tallied 18 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks and six steals last week for the Lady Bulldogs.
Jalisa Issac (B-CU) shot 58-percent from the field and 63-percent from 3-point range to total 29 points and seven rebounds in two games for the Lady Wildcats.
Tiara Knotts (SCSU) shot 54-percent from the field (6-of-11) and totaled 15 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs.
April McBride (UMES) tallied 21 points, six rebounds, two assists and four steals in a non-conference win against Winston-Salem State.
Chena Parker (UMES) totaled 23 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Lady Hawks to a 2-0 record last week.
Quanneisha Perry (Ham) averaged a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds in two conference victories last week.
Batavia Owens (NSU) recorded a double-double of 10 points and 15 rebounds in a loss to Florida A&M.
