While checking out thrilla youtube page I watched the howard homecoming lost, and I noticed that its was people standing right on the endzone as if it was standing room only. My question is was there some kind of backstory as to why the game was so packed, I know it was homecoming but I been to a few now and never seen it that packed. Did people come out the stands because it was the last drive, or were people there the whole game. just curious

I'm only 30, but I think I can help. Back then we were good. We haven't been so good since 2003. Also, we have added several thousand seats to aggie stadium since 1993. Those people who used to stand can now sit in a seat or at least an aisle.

First of all, both teams were ranked in the top 10 in the nation (Howard may have been 11th). Both teams were undefeated!! A&T had a pretty good non-conference schedule. Howard's wasn't shabby but not as impressive as ours.
The game started at 12pm. My crew got there at 9am. We always sit on the visitor side, but that day, you had no choice. When we got to the game that morning, the home side, except the reserve section, was packed!!!
There were people sitting in the aisles!!! Howard's band attempted to be fashionably late, as a result, their seats were taken and they had to stand/sit in the endzone.
No matter how many times you watch that video, and no matter how many stories we tell you about that week, you'll never be able to grasp the atmosphere for that game.
'92 South Carolina State, and '93 South Carolina State, '99 FAMU are probably the only games that I've attended that come close to that game in terms of "hypeness"...but all of these are a distant 2nd to the '93 Homecoming. I talk to plenty of Howard grads, North Carolina State students etc., and they all say the same thing. The '93 Howard-A&T game is probably the best game they've ever seen.

TOPPDOGG, those people still would have been standing even with those two corners filled-in in the endzone opposite the scoreboard. The game sold out on Wednesday, but that didn't stop several hundred people from sneaking in under one of the fences. On top of the people at the game, you guys have no idea how many people were on campus and in the city that day!! Totally UNREAL!!!

The weather was beautiful, and it was also on BET which added to the hypness!

Roughly 31,500 people in a (back then) 18,500 seat stadium. Both teams were undefeated. A&T was fifth in the nation and had beaten App State and preseason number 1 (in some publications) Western Carolina. We were in the top 10 or so in rushing behind an almost all-senior offensive line. Howard was around 11th and had several future pros running a pro-style offense. It was the game of the century. I sat on the stairs in the end zone on my homegirl's lap. There was nowhere else to sit at all. We got there at 11:00 am.
Our drum major flew in on a helicopter.
The game lived up to the hype, went into overtime. Back in those days, the fire marshal looked the other way and we sold tickets until we ran out of stuff to print them on. The people you saw almost all paid to get into the game and just couldn't find anywhere to sit, so they stood around the sidelines.

OOOOWWEEEEEEE!!! THE '93 game in Orangeburg was rockin'!! Me and my boy drove to Orangeburg and were extra crunk b/c we were SC natives. Dawsom Stadium was packed and it was cold!!! Can't remember the exact details of the game, but I do remember A&T had a chance to win the game(perhaps in regulation) and our kicker a short caucasian dude missed a chipped shot. The game went to an overtime or two and SC State won 58-52. This game is a close second to the Howard game as one of my all time favorite A&T games.

Dont forget that it was Homecoming as well. It was my freshman year and first A&T homecoming. We had people stacked in the dorm rooms overnight to see that game. I was actually standing in the corner and almost got ran over. Best A&T game I ever been to...even though we lost in OT. Not a seat or inch of grass left in the stadium to stand on.
Oh, and the band showed out. Ant came down in the helicopter to a deafening roar and The Machine delivered.

The '92 SC State game went down to the wire!!! I think that was Robert Porcher's last year. He eventually became the anchor of the Detroit Lion's defensive line. There were back to back kickoff returns for touchdowns and the Aggies managed to hold off the Bulldogs down the stretch for a victory.
The '93 South Carolina State game was a very good game. I can't remember the Bulldogs' running back, but #4 was running all over that field. The SC State offensive line was opening up HUGE holes for him to run through!! A&T had a chance to win it in regulation, but our field goal kicker missed a chip-shot and South Carolina State eventually won it in about the 4th or 5th OT!!
The '94 Howard game was pretty 'hype'. Definitely a revenge game. But it couldn't do anything to take away the pain of that '93 loss!! But the DC Aggies were very happy, because that means they could go back to work that following Monday and not have to listen to the Howard alums in the office.
