DE - Jarrell Herring DT - Adam Beal DT - Micah Stanfield DE - Tyre Glasper
OLB - Brandon Jackson MLB - Andre Thornton OLB- Jamison Hedgepeth
CB - Kevin Green CB - Quay Long FS - Terrence Webb SS - Nick Clement
Correct me if I'm wrong with these projected starters, but how do you guys feel about this lineup?
Is that unit good enough to win games in 09?

Is that unit good enough to win games in 09? If the General thinks they're good enough, I'm okay with it! The Motown boys are gonna wreak havoc this season!

i like that starting lineup and i like the depth behind them at the lb and db positions. its depth on the d-line that concerns me. if we can keep the motown connection healthy, we'll have a very competitive defense...

Thrilla
On paper this is a championship defense. The defense is the strongest unit on this year team

Tyre Glasper was virtually unblockable during the scrimmage on Saturday. I am curious to see what his sack total will be this year ...

I think this defense can win games for us because it’s experienced and possesses MEAC level talent. In fact, I think it’s going to fall on them to win the first game against WSSU. The secondary is a question mark but you can’t help feeling positive about the transfer from Purdue. T-Webb, show us what you got!

At the 0:22 second mark of the below clip, watch #94 blow through the double team by Sunkins and some other player.

More than good enough. We are deep everywhere except on the D-line where we will depend on four true freshman and one redshirt for second line depth.
So if we can avoid mass injuires up front, this unit should hold most opponents to 14 or less points per game.

The defense is just one third of a championship team. Who ever said defense wins championships was wrong. It takes offense that can control the clock and put points on the board, special teams that can control field position and a defense that can get 3 and outs. Our first team defense looks good but it’s the back ups that worries me. Our defense was not that bad under Coach Odums last year considering it was most of the defensive staff’s first year at A&T we just did not have any depth. Last year our offense was just so bad!!! When you THROW for negative yards in one game (and yes we did throw for negative yards in one game last year), you will have trouble with a middle school team.

I think defensively we are very solid...and this defense can and should carry the team until the offense get it's feet underneath them. I think depth is the best it has been in a long time. Even the d-line is okay...we have newbies that are backups which is okay with me if they can play.

dogpound,
Good points. The offense, the three and out guys, kept the team in poor field position (could not move the ball) and the situation was usually compounded by the awful play of the special teams unit.
The future appears to be brighter on offense (fingers & toes crossed), but no one has reported anything positive or negative about the special teams. I would be interested in reading comments about their prospects for this season.

Eric Houston looked pretty horrible in the scrimmage last Saturday. He missed one short field goal and had some very short distances on his kickoffs.
The new punter looked decent, but it was not like he was booming kicks either.
I don't think the freshman place kicker did anything during the scrimmage except watch the action.

My take is coming out next week on special teams.

The offensive line should be our main concern. I'm not convinced that the group we have will step up.

I feel good about the front four. I feel good about the linebackers.
I just don't know about that secondary - especially our corners. We have some talent back there, but are they ready for prime time?
