They have a new chancelor who has said she wants to expand the reach and visibility of spartan athletics. The AD retired not too long after. And last season the club football team played the first home game in school history. Sounds to mee like they want an actual football team.

I very seriously doubt G is looking at football. It may be in the long (really long) term plan. In this economic climate, though, it just doesn't make a lot of sense. UNCC is even having to backtrack on some of it's initial optimism and now upgrade their soccer stadium (not build a new one). I think the new UNCG chancellor has decided to shift focus and make men's basketball the flagship of the university's athletics program. Our uncgfans.freeforums.org/index.php]board has several threads discussing how this has not always been the case. Hopefully, Chancellor Brady has seen that basketball is the easiest way to increasing the school's visibility.

Thanks Thrilla (for the avatar too) ... I've been reading these boards for a while now. Figured it was time to post on a subject that I have some strong feelings about.
Honestly, I would love G to play D1 (or any division for that matter) football. I would financially support it*. However, it just seems like a bad idea right now. Even playing non-scholarship football, like Davidson, would cost valuable money (travel, equipment, stadium upgrades, coaches, etc.) that our athletic department just doesn't have available right now.
I think any plans to add football will be based on how successful Charlotte is with their move.
Also, former AD Bobb played college football. If anyone would have pushed for this, I would have thought it would've been him.
* I think I'm one of the few who would even financially support it.
