that's what i was afraid of, sixtiesaggie. berry has some excellent stats and awards. but if 1-AAAAA in georgia is equivalent to 1A in north carolina, then chances are she's not a sleeper. playing at the 1A level in north carolina is like playing a bunch of jv teams and if georgia's !-AAAAA is about on that same level, then i can't get too excited about berry... The number "1" represents a region in GA. I believe AAAAA schools have an enrollment close to 2000 or more. Admittedly, Coffee Co. is a rural area in which there are not a lot of teams in its immediate area, however, their region includes at least three teams that would provide good competition. Lowndes County, Valdosta, and Northside Warner-Robins (a total of six games that would provide competition equal to that of the average high school team. Additionally, she has played AAU summer ball that has provided adequate competition for evaluation. I saw her play a game this past season, a game in which she started out kinda "rough"--missing 3 of her first 4 shots. However, she rebounded well during this stretch and played solid defense. Her offense came together in the second qtr. and she probably ended the game with about 12-15 pts. and probably 8-10 rebounds and 3-4 blocks. She didn't have to carry her team because there were two guards on the team that played well.

as far as nikia gorham (6'2" center from maryland) is concerned, i can tell you that she plays 4A ball which is the highest level of "public" high school play in maryland. her league isn't as competitive as the "private" school league (wcac) that marc hill and tierra thomas played in. but its about the same as north carolina's 4A leagues.
i haven't seen her play in person, but i've followed her closely in the washington post newspaper all season long. she's been very consistent all season, usually scoring 12 to 14 points. rarely scoring more than 14 points and rarely scoring less than 10. she's a big body that should complement deblanc extremely well next year. and with two 6'2" bodies in the paint, we stand a better chance of competing with the major d1's next year.
but i'm really anxious to see what murdaugh can do. knowing how successful bibbs has been with transfers in the past (both btj and ab were transfers), my gut tells me that murdaugh will significantly compensate for the loss of btj and ab. and with next year's big 3 returning (tweet, sams, and smalley), i feel confident that the beat will go on in '09-'10...

4 from Colquitt named All-Region in basketball
MOULTRIE — Four members of the Colquitt County High basketball teams have been named to the All-Region 1-AAAAA teams selected by the league’s coaches. Thomas, who has signed to play at Auburn next season, also was named to the All-Region team as a sophomore. Junior Umeika Henry was named to the second team. The Packers junior Nathaniel Hill was named to the boys 11-player all-region team. This is the second year in a row that Hill has been named to the All-Region team.
