On March 9, 1891, the North Carolina General Assembly ratified the Act establishing the "A. and M. College for the Colored Race." Its purpose was "to teach practical agriculture and mechanic arts and such branches of learning as relate there to, not excluding academic and classical instruction." One Hundred and Eighteen Years later that institution established on the campus of Shaw University to fulfill requirements for the Morill Act of 1890 has grown into one of leading producers of African-American Engineers, Accountants, Psychologists and Technologists. The Carnegie Foundation recognizes our alma mater as institution with high research activity.
So today I wish to you and all Aggies a Happy Birthday...and the prayer for many more celebrations and a MEAC Championship in ALL Sports one day! Brandon L. Bellamy, '08 B.A., Liberal Studies (Culture Change and Social Development) College of Arts and Sciences
"Dear A&T, Dear A&T, a monument indeed, Around thy base with grateful hearts behold thy students kneel. We bless the power that gave thee birth to help us in our need, We’ll ever strive while here on earth all loyalty to yield. "

Did not know today was our birthday. Thanks for sharing this tidbit. I try not to forget the bday, especially after the little debacle at the MEAC in 2007 where the MEAC Officials wouldn't allow us to sing the Alma Mater after our fall to FAMU. What a tense moment that was...
