I guess this is what happens in the information age. JCSU just hired some dude named Steve Aycock to replace Brick McNeil as their new football coach, and already folks have discovered that he got his master's degree from an unaccredited school named Barrington University. onnidan1.com/forum/index.php/topic,23012.45.html

If true, they also need to rip up their selection process.

www.consumeraffairs.com/education/barrington.htmlBarrington University Mobile, AL James of Brownsburg IN (7/11/03):The summer of 2001 I registered with Barrington University. In my conversations and emails with them they told me they were accredited. I was very careful as my company will not reimburse me for classes taken at non-accredited universities. Now I am finding out that Barrington really isn't accredited per se. They claim to be but by an unrecognized agency that isn't even in the United States. I have copies of several emails that were sent to me by Ms. Kleinman that were intended to make me believe I was getting a US accredited degree. I was misled. My company will not reimburse me the money since Barrington is not accredited in the US. I have made every attempt to handle this myself without getting a lawyer. I wasted $2,125 on tuition and another $200 on books for worthless classes. I also wasted my time doing lessons and taking tests for these classes. Ms. Kleinman responds (6/7/04):When does this report get removed as this situation was rectified and the student was returned their money over 2 years ago and this still comes up every time we look or type in a search engine. We rectified the problem and came to a happy resolution with the student.
From the Barrington Web site:
Barrington University is not accredited by any of the regional accrediting organizations in the United States. Accreditation is a voluntary process and is not a requirement by the Department of Education to grant degrees.

Steve of Charlotte NC (1/27/09):
I took classes with Barrington University while I worked at a flower shop owned by my in-laws. The unique, unaccredited atmosphere allowed me to gain a master’s degree on my own time. I was able to parlay that master’s degree into a head coaching position for which I am quite unqualified and am bound to lose within the next three years. Thanks Barrington! Can’t wait for homecoming online this year!

I bet they play Univ. of Phoenix for homecoming. That is a heated rivalry.
