Thursday, January 15 ( updated 6:18 am) By Robert Bell Staff Writer GREENSBORO -- Turns out, selecting Morgan State defensive coordinator Alonzo Lee as N.C. A&T's next head football coach was the easy part. Introducing Lee to Aggie fans, alumni and, more importantly, potential recruits has proven a bit harder. A week after N.C. A&T athletics director Wheeler Brown offered the job to Lee, there has been no official announcement from the university -- not a peep. On Wednesday, Brown said the school's Board of Trustees must first approve the new coach's contract before an announcement is made.
The board must approve the hiring of any employee who, unlike professors or administrators, is offered a contract. The next scheduled meeting of the board is Feb. 20, although trustees can conduct an emergency meeting if they want, said Mark Kiel, vice chancellor of development and university relations. For the complete story: www.news-record.com/content/2009/01/15/article/stay_tuned_no_official_announcement_on_at_coach

Why wouldn't they approve it? It can't be worst than the last one they approved. They might as well approve that isht over the phone while they at the salon, in the tub, or at a pig-pickin'.
If this is the case, the BOD has A&T looking real smalltime right about now...

Let's face it. There are no Albert Einsteins or Thurgood Marshalls on the BOT at A&T. But there is this little added tidbit to the story from this morning that might clear this up by tomorrow hopefully.
"Then came word late Wednesday afternoon from Nettie Rowland, a university spokeswoman, that the board would conduct a teleconference meeting today at 5:15 p.m. to discuss a personnel issue. Rowland declined to elaborate."
Wheeler should be P.O.'ed. I would be. It's just flat embarrassing that this administration doesn't have anyone working in the Dudley building that can't look beyond the tip of their noses and anticipate anything that obviously has to be squared away ahead of time.
I hope when Gov. Perdue starts furloughing state employees and she will, she starts with overpaid university administrators first.

This is a travesty. I feel bad for Wheeler because I know for a fact that he has tried everything in his power to have a coach officially in place weeks ago.
This red tape crap that we are having to endure now is not his fault.

BTW: Wheeler, if you are reading this, go ahead and have the press conference next Wednesday, Jan. 21.
You don't want to have it tomorrow, because it will seem like you are just making a hasty reaction to the N&R article. Plus, you need to give fans, alumni and media officials more of a notice than that.
You don't want to have it on Monday because that is MLK's birthday and a school holiday.
You don't want to have it on Tuesday because I hear something big is taking place up in DC that day.
Your best bet for a press conference would be Wednesday, Jan. 21.

Nope. Do it tomorrow. Recruiting comes first. We actually are have a big chance on having a really good recruiting year in-state and Saturday is huge.
Just make sure that one of the university's web sites tapes the entire thing so folks can watch it over the weekend or You Tube it.

The recruits have waited this long; they can wait 5 more days.
Have it Wednesday and you will have a great turnout, plus it won't appear as if the News & Record just punked you into having a emergency press conference that you were not really planning to hold.

Sorry you don't wait on recruiting. I know we sure can't. I could care less about the N&R. No matter what we do they will find fault so let's be smart for just once and take care of our own needs first. WB has made the right choices so far so don't screw it up now.
Let's go get the players while we have them here right in front of us. Nothing is more attractive to a 18-y/o teenage boy than that new car smell.
Well one other thing might be but its sure is a damn close second.

Forget about playing to the News & Record. This is not the first time with made a blunder, screw up or what ever you want to call it. The Record makes a living off of discrediting A&T.
We must officially have the new Coach annouced and on record to talk with recruits on Saturday.
This is like having multiple job offers. You like a particular Company but you did not meet your potential boss and you know that your supervisors position has been a revolving door.
Come on guys this is a "game changing decision" for recruits.

Someone should get Battle's opinion on the selection process at his meeting tonight.
I agree that we should not wait.

At least have the press conference at about 5:30 PM tomorrow so I can be there. That would make more sense.

That's what you really wanted all the time wasn't it? Be like me and be patient .
I'm finally going to write my column regarding the changing of the guard tonight now that it is a done deal.

You and I both know that A&T will not have any video or transcript of the press conference posted this week or this month or this year.
Bluedeathvalley.com is the only way fans will be able to see what happened at the press conference.

Why can't you gentlemen have it both ways? The school can do a press release stating that Coach X has been hired and is on campus working very hard to solidify his staff and preparing to meet all new recruits and also planning for further recruiting. State that the university will hold a press conference on Wednesday (?) to formally introduce the new coach to the university family, alumni, friends, and other supporters

That sounds like a winner. That sounds like the best idea imaginable. That sounds like the perfect compromise.
And therefore, there is no way A&T would ever do that.
