December 24, 2008
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Lamont M. Hinson has been named sports information director at Johnson C. Smith University effective January 2, 2009.
Hinson comes to JCSU from Fayetteville State University where he served as the assistant sports information director since November 2006. "JCSU and the athletics department are extremely fortunate to hire Lamont as our sports information director," said Steve Joyner, Sr., athletics director. "In selecting the successor for Kristene Kelly, the search committee knew they had a daunting task in hiring someone with the same work ethic and commitment to JCSU that Kristene had. Lamont possesses these attributes and brings to the table incredible technology intellect and savvy, which are critical in today's business. There is no question that the excellence of our sports information department will continue with Lamont."
Hinson said he is glad to be able to serve within the sports information profession and remain in the CIAA.
"I greatly appreciate this opportunity to join the JCSU family," said Hinson. "The institution and their athletic department are constantly moving in a positive direction. By working with Coach Joyner, university faculty/staff, and all the Johnson C. Smith coaches I trust that I am surrounding myself with success."
As the sports information director, Hinson will coordinate all publicity and communications for Golden Bulls Athletics, including developing and maintaining the athletics Web site; arranging media interviews with coaches, student athletes and other staff members; promoting home events; developing athletic media/public relations strategies; maintaining statistical information for teams; doing live statistics and Webcasts of home events; producing editorial content for athletics publications, coordinating media coverage for home events and training; and managing and supervising student workers and game-day staff.
A native North Carolinian, Hinson is originally from Fayetteville. He graduated from Fayetteville State University in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He then earned a master’s degree in business administration and a master’s in sports management from Barry University (Miami, Fla.) in 2006.
He is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
