Say what you want, but Asberry has gotten the job done everywhere he's been.
Dude just flat out knows how to produce.

Shaw is private, it cost the same amount to give a kid a scholarship regardless of the state that he lives in. That is not a recipe that would be acceptable at A&T. 80 to 85% of the kids must come from NC! You won't see that written down anywhere but there is no way the athletic department is going to Go Gun-Ho with 33% of kids coming from out of state.
Personally I would prefer to see the Athletic department hire a coach in the range of $100-$115K and bring in an outstanding recruiting coordinator.

That can be easily done in this case. I think we spend too much time comparing apples to oranges here when comparing the CIAA and MEAC and in-state or out of state recruting.
Smart experienced sucessful coaches at HBCUs learn real quickly how to adapt to their circumstances which seems to be one of Wheeler's main hiring criteria.
Don't let yourself be deceived by the division difference. Asberry is an offensive Houdini whose done it at both levels very successfully in his game plans.
He would have to find himself a couple of pocket quarterbacks right off the bat if he were to come to A&T and recruit more in-state kids but he was doing that with Broadway at NCCU before he went to Shaw so that argument is hollow at best.
Add in the fact that he is a "Alvin Wyatt Type A personality" which we really need right now with some of the underachievers on this team especially along the offensive front, he would step up the intensity immensely.
Most likely he would turn this completely program 180 degrees within 2 years and he has a very competent staff around him already in place to do just that.
The question would then be could he and Brown work together harmoniously with totally different personalities?
