Didn't see it but heard about the stats. This team has a long way to go. These guys have to get serious. Their shooting is horrible and they had too many turnovers.

www.ncataggies.com/Mensbasketball/2008-09%20articles/blue&goldscrimmage.htmGREENSBORO, November 8, 2008 – North Carolina A&T fans got their first chance to see the 2008-09 men’s basketball team compete even though the team was competing against each other. The Aggies held their annual Blue & Gold intrasquad scrimmage at Corbett Sports Center Saturday morning. What fans saw was the willingness of one team to fight back from a large deficit and the determination of the other Aggie team to handle adversity to win the game as the Blue earned an 82-77 overtime win over the Gold. Senior guard Ed Jones led the Blue Aggies with 22 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Junior forward Robert Johnson added 17 points and 13 rebounds, while junior point guard Tavarus Alston finished with 20 points, five assists and four steals. The Gold Aggies were paced by sophomore center Thomas Coleman who had 22 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. Freshman point guard Marc Hill added 15 points, nine assists and three steals, and Nic Wilson had 18 for the Gold. “Early on we’re going to be looking for someone to step up and lead, so it may be a struggle for us early’’ said head coach Jerry Eaves, who watched the game from the stands while his assistants shared the duties of coaching both teams. “But once we find that scorer and that leadership, I’m excited about some of the things this team can accomplish.” The Blue Aggies had no problem scoring the ball through the first 31 minutes of the game. A James Porter put back gave the Blue Aggies a 66-44 lead with 9:07 remaining in the game. But just as the Blue Aggies began to cool off, the Gold Aggies saw their fortunes turn as they began to heat up. Over the next five minutes of the game, the Blue Aggies went 0-for-9 from the floor and turned the ball over twice, opening the door for their opponents. Back-to-back 3-pointers from Nic Wilson that cut the lead to 66-50 gave every indication the Gold Aggies were ready to make a run. During the same span the Blue went cold, the Gold Aggies went on an improbable run that saw them go on an 18-0 run in which they were 7-for-12 from the floor during the rally to cut the Blue’s lead to 66-62 with 4:29 remaining in the game. But it wasn’t until a Dwane Joshua layup with 48 seconds remaining that the Gold Aggies were able to take their first lead since the 12:26 mark of the first half as Joshua’s score gave the Gold Aggies a 72-71 advantage. Two Hill free throws increased the Gold’s lead to 74-71 with eight seconds remaining. But Jones would not let the come-from-behind win become a reality. He launched a 25-footer at the buzzer with his normal jump shot form and netted the 3-pointer to send the game into overtime. An offensive rebound and put back by Julian McClurkin and a Jones layup gave the Blue Aggies an early four-point overtime lead the Gold Aggies never recovered from. The Aggies will come together again as a unit 7 p.m., Friday, November 14 when they play their season opener against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Corbett Sports Center.

Hey Fam, & oleschoolaggie Driving over from Raleigh/Durham, it seems like everybody has a midnight madness…even NCCU around here. The League & Tournament needs a good A&T. I went to the Blue & Gold game and later to the FAMU game. About 300 attended including Coach Bibbs and Her team. Ed Jones hit a big shot…an NBA three late to send it into OT.
Offense: To me this is not your ‘shoot the three first & ask questions later “ type offense. But the “three” will be there because we have a lot of motion, and we swing the ball around a lot . This team will run. The guards push the ball. Marc Hill has a Chris Paul type game that gets into the lane in a decent way. He needs more help at times, from others to clear a better passing lane or to be ready to receive the ball. Tavarus Alston had a solid game. McClurkin and Ed Jones ran the whole game. They are in shape. This offense has speed. It’s the half-court game that need better shooting. Thomas Coleman had a quiet 22 points and used both hands under the basket. We are somewhat of a tall team for the MEAC.
Its Early: Ø I dont know if we have a Jason Wills “I’m taking you to the hoop, you had better foul me “ type crunch time type player. Ø I don’t see a Dennis Rodman “I’m getting every rebound & shutting you down” type at this time. Its early. Defensively: We can press and will probably get some turnovers while wearing down the guards from the other team. Coleman will go & block your stuff if it is weak . Porter has that “take the charge first” type vibe that I’m not a fan of, but that is his game it seems. He also hit the floor after a loose ball, which I liked, and facing the basket he hit his shots. His game is better.
Its Early: Ø We need an Enforcer…a Charles Oakley type. Someone who gives a hard foul and can step out & hit a jumper. Maybe Porter can develop into it. Ø There comes a time “in the crunch” that you have got to get the rebound. We are tall, but will we win the rebounding fight each night? I don’t know. Coaching: I don’t know. Eaves was evaluating from the stands. To me it’s just a few things that I look for.adjustments. Ø Can we break a team’s press the 2nd time we see it…and even score? Ø Do we change our defense (if deemed) after a time out? Ø Do we end up with an easy play offensively, after a time out? Final thoughts: >We will need our defense to provide a share of our points with their ¾ court pressure. >I want to see more people “make/create their own shots” >We played well overall. >We may sneak up on some people this year because of our balance. I’m optimistic.

The dust has settled... > This team may surprise us. It reminds me of a quiet group of guys that may just put in work. It has a little flash with it ( guards), but also has a lot of Double Double potential ( Forwards/Center). I would like to see a little more driving to the basket & better perimeter shooting. To me, on any given night this team could be paced by someone unexpected. Fam, I want to see more.

All we need is a scorer and leadership? That's a lot.

Brandmasta It seems like Ed will be the leader. He took the shot to send it to OT. He's in shape. He has confidence....( like Rush), that can look good or not so good at times. I just would like to see us break down a defense a little more with drives rather than long jumpers. But I'll tell ya...Marc Hill has a nice handle in traffic.

That's a lot. it scares me too, brandmasta. to admit, before we've played one single game, that we're expected to struggle is scary. and saying you're excited about "some of the things this team can accomplish" doesn't really exude a lot of confidence, does it? and just what does he mean by "some of the things"? i sure as hail hope that "some of the things" means "wins", otherwise what else is there to be excited about?
