when you're predicted to win the conference championship it puts a big ole bull's eye on your back and if our ladies aren't mentally ready, they could slip up a couple of times this season. we struggled down the stretch last season for that very reason.
after ripping through the conference undefeated after about 10 games, the rest of the conference realized there was a new sheriff in town and that the lady aggies were for real. so everybody stepped it up big time against us for the rest of the season and attacked our only weakness, post defense. we didn't have size in the paint and it cost us in the tournament. hopefully 6'3" aggie freshman recruit, Kia DeBlanc, will provide the answer to that weakness for us this year.
i like our chances to win the meac this year but i'm not naive, it won't be easy. but it sure as heck will be fun to watch!

If we come close to our potential then winning the MEAC should be easy. If we're not beating MEAC teams by an average of 20 points then we have no chance of winning a first round NCAA or NIT tourney game.

decks, i agree. but when you're deemed favored to win the meac, its more difficult to play your hardest because "mentally" you feel superior and that you don't have to bring your "A" game to win. that's why most athletes prefer to be the underdog.
i've coached two "nationally" top 3 aau teams and an additional two nationally top 4 aau teams. and during my years of coaching when my team studied film on opposing teams, i convinced my players that the team they see on film won't play the same when they play against us because we were highly ranked nationally and had a bull's eye on our backs. the team on film would only play their average game against most other teams, so its a trap to think the team on film would play the same against us. our first year at the nationals, we loss to an inferior team for that very reason and barely finished 7th. but the following year with the correct mentality, we weathered the storms and almost won the national championship.
its that kind of focus our lady aggies will have to have this season. everyone will play their best against us, the same way they did against coppin a year ago. there's enough talent remaining in the meac this year to beat us if we don't play to our potential. bibbs has been in this business long enough to know that and i'm confident she'll have the ladies ready to play...

Hampton, Morgan, and Coppin will all have good teams you are correct about all three of those teams. but i wouldn't overlook umes either. this year, umes may be the second best team in the meac. and i wouldn't discount dsu either. if Kia DeBlanc turns out to be an above average post player for us and if our returning players do not become complacent, you'd really have to favor us to go to the big dance this season. anything less will be a disappointment. this season will be amber's senior year and if you had to pick one player who symbolizes the turnaround of the lady aggies' basketball team, it would be miss bland. i would think she will be extra motivated to bring home the gold this year...

here is where i have a bone to pick with the meac commish... if we had beaten coppin... could he had lobbied to get coppin an at large bid... coppin has played well in the ncaa & the nit... their program deserves more respect on a national level than what they receive...
