The Atlanta alumni chapter had chancellor Battle as their special guest this past weekend in Atlanta. They had serveral events where Battle spoke. I was also in attendance. Battle announced that he had given the marching band $150,000 for scholarships and equipment to try and get the band back up to where they use to be. He got a big applause from the alums in attendance, some of them were ex-band members ;D. He stated that he had gotten complaints about the state of the band and felt that they should have the chance to be the best that they can be. He has a special place in his heart for music and the arts. By the way Atlanta, the fish-fry was banging. I had big fun!!!! ;D

for the band to be successful we need the marching band and music department to work together...with all the money they have, it dont mean a thing if you dont have the people to help develop the players in the band...they need more then one assistant band director also

ditto!!! I said that to Dr. Welborne and the Director of Budget and Personnel for Student Affairs along with the Asst. Dean from the College of Arts and Sciences. From the Student Fee standpoint, we were funding the band but that funding isn't enough to do scholarships and etc. We have suggested and emphasized that Dr. Ruff needs to do more, but in the 2 years I sat on that committee we haven't seen the initative. Plus, musicality has taken a major hit over the last few years!!! Chancellor Renick spoiled the band somewhat by making sure travel was paid for the band at the cost of overdrawing their Student Affairs (Student Fee Account). So I hope Chancellor Battle says that his money he is giving will require that the band and band boosters do major fundraising to bring in additional funds. Also I went to the Band Center today for the first time with a fmr band member from WSSU and I was shocked that we still haven't installed an A/C unit for the actual "bandroom/garage" along with doing something work on the acoustics in the room.

aggie08...i feel u on the A/C thing i really wish that the band could just go back to the original band room and get out the hot box/ band center.
Alot of the other stuff u said makes sense also..but i can say they have been doing other fundraising for the band...i have helped out many times..
