First of all, I'm glad to be back at my home, the valley!
I want to thank Bornthrilla for getting me back here and for all of the BDF members who have evolved this site into one of the most intellegent fan sites out on the web.
I really do miss you guys, and having seen most of you this basketball season, I had to get back on here. With all conflict of interest stuff out of the way, I am free to state my humble opinion on all things aggie athletics.
(The site) has been a fun read this athletic season, and actually, since I've been out of the site for almost two years, it seems like a lifetime.
First of all, when the news broke that Coach Bibbs was coming here, I knew that it wasn't going to take long for her to do what she has done here. The difference is that she is appreciated here because our program hasn't WON!!!
Women's basketball team members have come to give an effort to win, really, since our last title in '95. Now, we EXPECT TO WIN. That is worth about 10-15 points alone on the court, and two or three recruits.
Bibbs has said that the great players that came through here since that title deserved so much better...(even though she NEVER lost to them at Hampton).
I really don't think the Aggie fans trunly understand how remarkable the current team on the floor is right now. This is a big statement, but trust me, we are talking about best team all time status MEAC...Let me remind you that we just witnessed Coppin State run the table nearly two years in a row. This team is better than that team..even with Leisel Harry (the center from Trinidad)...I am dangerously close to saying that this team run with Sanya Tyler's Howard team ('92-95) with 3-time First Team All MEAC Alisha Hill.
This team is destroying the upper echelon of the MEAC...Coppin's teams didn't do that during their run, neither did Bibbs team at Hampton.
But they have to FINISH...a lot of this play looked good last year, but the ladies ran out of gas at the wrong time.
Another thing I've noted is that the individual talent around the league has improved on the women's side....but NOT THE COACHING.
And let's be real...what if Fred Bachelor had been given the job instead of Saudia Roundtree? I believe we would be exactly where we are. He CAN coach.
I'll speak on the men's side later.
