Having grown up in Atlanta, I can tell you that unless thangs have changed you will have what is at best an apathetic fan base trying to fill up whatever arena you put it in. I don't think it makes too much sense to put the tournament in a state where the conference has no presence whatsoever other than alumni. These are the same alumni that didn't support the heritage bowl and only support the Atlanta Classic.

The only problem with cities like DC is that they already have alot of tourism during that time, so what incentive do they have for paying the MEAC any money for coming?

That ain't the only problem. Where do you put it is a huge question. You can't put a paltry tourny that couldn't even keep Raleigh's interest in the Verizon Center. Landover is now an outdoor mall.
Somebody tell me why we even have a tourny again.

My top 3 would be Greensboro, Durham, or Winston.
Greensboro is the most logical choice. A central location with 3 in-state schools and 3 others within decent driving distance. not to mention that the coliseum has a relationship with A&T, so it want be any bull$h*t like Raleigh is pulling. Just keep it off the same weekend as the womens ACC tournament and the mens tournament when it comes back.
If in Durham it would have to be at Cameron. Cameron is the perfect fit size wise. Not too big, but enough to hold people actually interested in the games. Most of the hotels in Durham are near Duke's campus, so that works out to.
Either that or take it to the Lawrence Joel in Winston. They would love to get some tourism up there again.

I think the MEAC has this tourny to try and compete with the CIAA. The schools that left the CIAA to form the MEAC left because they were pissed off with the CIAA for some reason (so I have heard). They are either still pissed off or jealous and will die trying to make this tourny work. I don't care where we have the MEAC, it will never ever be able to compete with the CIAA.

IMO, as long as Harvey (Hampton) can punk the other chancellors in the MEAC into picking a commish like Thomas that will bow down to him personally, this conference won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

I think Norfolk would be good as well. 10, 000 seat arena is perfect size and the location with 2 schools there and 4-5 within 4 hours. I like it. i would be there. Its better than damn Richmond!

Not true. The original MEAC members that left the CIAA (NCA&T, Howard, Morgan State, NCCU, DelState and UMES) did so because of the backwards thinking of the remaining CIAA membership.
The CIAA folks felt that "basketball is the engine that drives athletics." The MEAC members KNEW that football has to be the economic engine. Thus the split.
And if you look at it, you'll see that it is still true today.
All the money that the CIAA Basketball Tournament generates stills pales in contrast to what MEAC football brings in. On the flip side, I believe that as bad as our overall basketball attendance is, it still outdraws CIAA football attendance.
