Its funny, I was going to say Broughton, but figured broughton's stadium is kinda small, even for St Aug. I guess it is down the street though.

By the way the MEAC made the decision to have the basketball games at 4pm on Saturdays I thought that I was the only one who thought this was a crazy idea.

I have always believe when one door close others open. This could be a golden opportunity if we select the right door to enter. I may be the only person on this board that is not impressed with our MEAC leadership( commissioner). I know we could do a hell of alot better.

Concerning the tipoff times being at 4:00 pm, we forget that a lot of folks were complaining about 7:00 pm or 8:00 pm games on Saturday ending so late that there were included on the local sports highlights at night. Sometimes the scores weren't in the Sunday papers, either. There was a REASON behind that move. Maybe it should be re-visited, but 4:00 pm tipoffs give you time to get home and watch other games on TV (basketball & football) later that night.
Concerning the MEAC Basketball Tournament, I like the idea of moving back to smaller arenas. I had not thought of this, but playing at Duke might be good move.
Does anyone else remember how messy things got between the MEAC and the city of Greensboro? Too many bridges were burned on both sides to come back. But what about playing it in Corbett?? Or in Norfolk State's building?? Or in Hampton's Convocation Center??

Sharpless, the first 3 or 4 MEAC tournaments were played at Duke's Cameron Indoor back in the early 70's. We also use to play the Aggie/Eagle at Duke's Wallace Wade Stadium, so it might not be that difficult to work something out with Duke. Having the MEAC on one of the member school's campus might be the best idea. It worked petty good when we played it at Norfork State and at Morgan.

Here's another venue for the MEAC Tournament: Charlotte's Independence Arena. It seats about 12,000 and is centrally located to A&T, WSSU, NCCU & SCSU. Lots of alums from those four schools in the Queen City, too.

in the early yrs. of meac tourny when nccu was a member cameron indoor stadium would be packed because people were supporting both tournaments... my parents included... if only the meac commish. had left well enough alone.... people might still be supporting both...

thomas should have taken the tournament to winston... a city that really wanted it... & a city that would have nourished it out of the respect it has for wssu... the relationship between wssu & winston is a great one from what i can tell....
but here is another advantage.... greensboro is right down the road.... you let the a&t people treat the tournament like it's an a&t homecoming & square away greensboro.... you let the wssu people treat it like it's a wssu homecoming & square away winston... & behold you got yourself a tournament with alot going on...!!!!
when the tournament out grows this area... then you look for bigger markets that can hold it... like a charlotte or an atl..... bottom line is... the meac is a good product... it just has to be planted in the right enviornment for it to grow.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I say move it to Jacksonville, FL., Savannah, GA, or even Charleston.

I think Greenville, S.C. (Bi-Lo Center) would be a really good alternative spot for the MEAC. Greenville is a really nice city and there are plenty of SCSU fans there and more than a few A&T fans there also.

If this thread shows anything it shows that the meac is too spread out. Some of the prospective cities that have been listed are insanely bad choices. I ain't gonna name them but they are mostly in the previous posts on the subject over the last few weeks.
If you put it in DC, Greensboro, Charlotte and maybe Hampton Roads, you might see a decent turnout. Otherwise just get rid of it altogether and go with the regular-season champ, or let the regular-season champ host it.

Raleigh was the perfect place at the wrong time and venue. If NCCU and WSSU had already been in the MEAC the event would have made a lot more money. Unfortanately Raleigh or Durham don't have any mid size venues that dont belong to schools already. The RBC is just to much for the MEAC to fill right now. They would be faced with paying rent where ever they go. The Dean Dome might be good(if available) or even UNC's old spot(Charmichael), how does that look now? only problem i have with being hosted on another non-MEAC campus is that it just doesn't feel right and something will always happen for them to be like "damn ni$$%%s"
Or just do everyone's favorite place, the ATL. DC is high on my list too.
