We got out hustled up at Norfolk down the stretch. I have a feeling Eaves does not plan on that happening again.

The crowd was actually pretty decent. I would estimate the attendance at a little over 3000 but the band was not there. Plus Southern Virgina is a Division III non-scholarship team. A&T fans are savvy enough to know when a game is a glorified scrimmage. With that said, our guys played pretty sloppy all night. I am not sure if this A&T team will turn out to be a special one our just another version of Jerry's Kids (I came up with that tonight). Hopefully this just was a case of a team playing down to its lowly opponent.

They are in the "USCAA" division 1. What in the hell is the USCAA? No way we shoulda allowed them 90.

We should have beat this team by 68 not 34!!! Another game and the same perimeter defense and sloppy passing. I played on over 45 rec teams better than this team and they scored 90 points on us and probably shot close to 60% from the arc. After 5, 6, 7 in row wouldn't you think they could hit the open jumper.
The most amusing moment of the night was when the SoVA coach put in the last player on the bench and the DAWG POUND started chanting Borat, Borat, Borat! Dude looked like he was about 40 and of course he resembled the Borat character.

Southern Virginia is in the NAIA not D-III and one of the top three point shooting teams in that affiliation if you check their national statistics. They didn't have any size but a four guard offense that were all good three point shooters.
It was going to be a high scoring game because both teams play up tempo, run and bomb away when the opportunity presents itslf.
We were just bigger and faster off the boards when we decided to finally pressure them and stopped dragging butt getting back on defense. We didn't play smart but bigger and better athletes took them out.
I was really impressed with Tavarious Alston at point - smart, took care of the ball, penetrates, finishes, and very solid defensively. Not flashy but just a smart tough hard nosed kid who is a natural point.
Ed Jones, Jason Wills, and Thomas Coleman ought to be the starting front line the rest of the year. Personally I like to see Rush and Ewing alternate giving us a three point threat while resting for each other rather than being out there at the same time.
I can see that Eaves is looking at guys and various combinations but he will have to trim his rotation down after these nonconference games and play nine guys the rest of the way. Once the roles are defined and a rotation set, A&T is easily going to be a top three team in the MEAC.

Rush and Ewing were shooting bricks at the beginning of the game but they both eventually got hot and began to burn up the nets from 3 point range. The SVa team was hot from the 3 point range right off the bat. They went up by about 15 points on us at the beginning of the game before we got on track.

90 points is way too many points to give up to a NAIA team, even in a run and gun game....where was the defensive intensity? good teams control the tempo and play defense...So Va had nothing to lose by running and gunning, but we didnt gain anything in this one....
Defense wins championships...

There was no defense until the very end. Rivera #22, J.J. #10, and # 15 were burning up the nets all night. #22 had some handles on him and was crossing up the entire team.
The offense is there but their was no reason for them to score 90 points. I was looking for a full court press to start off and set the tempo early because if u saw them warming up, u knew it was going to be a shootout.
Overall, I thought we looked good. Our #10 is an all round player who was everywhere all night.

No one should be proud of that game!!! I suspect the reason that game was scheduled was because Eaves wanted to work on somethings, such as evaluating some bench players, DEFENSE, offensive sets, ect.. I don't think he envisioned his division I team playing the way they did and giving up that many points.
