GREENSBORO, November 20, 2007 – Not satisfied with just signing talented players, North Carolina A&T women’s basketball coach Patricia Cage-Bibbs is now after scholars too.
Bibbs has announced her signing class that includes two ladies with grade point averages that exceed 3.5 and skills that look as impressive.
“These ladies will continue to bring exciting basketball to North Carolina A&T,’’said Bibbs. “You hate to compare them to players who are already here, but they have the skills to keep the program headed in the right direction.”
The Aggies signed Nakia DeBlanc and Tierra Thomas.
Nakia DeBlanc is a 6-foot-2 center out of Rankin, Pa. DeBlanc attends Woodland Hills High School, where she averaged 13.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game as a junior. DeBlanc currently holds a3.8 GPA.
“Nakia is going to be a tremendous post player,’’ said Bibbs. “We’re still trying to build in the area of post players, and she can do it all. She can post, she can handle the ball and she can shoot the jump shot. We’re thrilled she chose toattend North Carolina A&T.”
Thomas, a 5-8 guard out of Bowie, Md., plays one of the best high school programs in the country in Bishop McNamara. Bishop McNamara consistently are ranked in the USA Todaytop 25 among girls basketball programs. Thomas is a leader among a team with many talented players. Despite all the talent, Thomas still averaged 13.0 points, 5.0rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. She has a 3.5 GPA.
“People know I like offense, but I’m in love with a player who will play defense,’’ said Bibbs.“Tierra brings that defense to the table, which is what I love about her. She comes from one of the best programs in the country, so she is fundamentally sound. And she brings something else to the table; the young lady is an outstanding student.”
