I saw three MEAC teams play very good competition over the weekend and all three look impressive with two of them looking very impressive. I saw Morgan State and Hampton on TV playing perennial basketball powers and I saw SC State in person playing ODU.
I can honestly say both Morgan State and Hampton could compete on a weekly basis in the ACC this year.
SC State has a new coach and you can tell right away that he can coach. They play a very tough defense, zone and man-to-man, but right now they don't have an outside shooter.
I think A&T's pre-season pick as number 3 was just right. The only thing the voters got wrong because they don't actually cover MEAC basketball is having Del State as number 2 instead of Morgan State. Del State is probably number 4 or 5 and right now I have SC State number 4 over Del State.
FAMU is a unknown team with a new coach but they could be in the mix for number 3 through 5. Coppin State may not have the talent to keep up with the 'Jones'. The big surprise could be Norfolk State. The Spartans have already beaten Richmond University of the Atlantic 10 on Richmond's home court.
In A&T's next three games I hope to see blowouts because after those games it is tough sailing all the way through March '08.

I watched Hampton last night and they are beasts! They took the ball inside against Maryland and didn't flinch! Morgan State and Hampton are the two most talented teams in the conference hands down! The rest of the MEAC needs to recruit like these guys!

That's what is all about, recruiting! But I don't think our budget for basketball is stout enough to get players like the one's at Hampton. I don't know what Morgan's budget is like, but I know for a fact that Bozeman is a good recruiter. I can't understand either why Morgan wasn't selected #2. But one thing for sure, we're gonna have a smoking Ladies team. I think we'll be able to hang with some of those major D-1 programs...no question!

Jaybee I agree with you. hopefully Sams, Neeley, and Russ can get adjusted and pick their games up by the time we play the majors.
Does anybody know the link that has the budgets for basketball, where you can compare?

Bozeman recruits locally so he doesn't need a huge budget. I think 9 pf his players are from the Baltimore/DC area.

I think you guys are writing off the aggies prematurely. I am sure morgan and hampton did impress but we shall see when the smoke clears.

Nate,
I agree with you about Hampton. This team is talented but mark my words they will lose 5-6 games in the MEAC conference. The talent on Hampton team remind me of the A&T squad in 85-86
