I also seem to remember us opening a can of "whoop a$$" on a very good Bob Huggins coached Akron team.
Of course when we had the streak going no big name team was going to take a chance coming into Corbett. Didn't we go like four years without a loss in Corbett? I think for about a year we had the longest home court winning streak in the nation!

Our AD needs to start treating mens b'ball like the ACC treats their b'ball..... like gold!!! Get them the recruiting budget they need.... have money available so kids can go to summer school each year wether it's to catch up or get ahead!!!

DOOMSDAY, dj98, et. al.... I stand by what I've said. BILL HAYES CAN'T COACH!! He's one heck of a recruiter... he succeeds in bringing in great talent... but he can't coach. He's ok as long as the team is ahead. His weakness is glaring when we would fall a touchdown or two behind. That's when his ineptness showed... BIG TIME!! ni_ _as and flies... GIVE ME A BREAK.

Econgrad71, what makes you say that Bill Hayes could not coach (199wins)? By the way 71, have you ever coached college ball?

He could coach and a whole lot more. When did he ever coach a program that he didn't have to practically self-fund? Did you take that into account?
I guess he lucked his way into almost 200 wins at two programs that sucked stinking a$$ before he got to them.

Coach Hayes was the best coach in A&T'S history hands down!!! There isn't another coach out there who can come in here and do what he did with no money!! Heck he lost good asst. coaches because the school couldn't pay em!!! The success he had here was because of the environment he created.... because the folks at A&T didn't do anything but complain!!!

I like that idea but that would eliminate a possible revenue source. Instead we could name the field after him.

That would suck when NCCU gets in the MEAC and he brings an away team on HIS field but we aren't making any revenue any off Aggie Stadium

They should call it "Don Corbett Stadium" because he paid for it.

Seeing as how Hayes was the first coach in A&T history to win 10 games and the winningest coach in A&T history, would you therefore say all our coaches sucked? Because basically his record shows he was clearly better than all the rest.
Furthermore, isn't recruiting part of a coach's duties?
Granted, on game day you might not see a good deal of comebacks from Hayes' teams, but why don't you go ahead and dig deep in your behind and find me the name of about four coaches we could and would actually hire that would provide comebacks.
Waiting...

Econ, what you are doing is criticizing Hayes for being a B+ coach. You can't sleepwalk to 199 wins on any college level. If Hayes was a A+ coach he would have won a Division 1AA Championship and he would have been gone because someone would have offered him a lot more money to coach their college team. A&T was lucky to have Hayes. There has only been one other black coach at a HBCU to have done better than Hayes since the 1980's and that was Billy Joe. We all know the story on FAMU and Billy Joe. They had to give all those wins back. Your criticism is valid Econ if you take the myopic view of a few games instead of the whole picture of an HBCU participating in Division IAA football. If Aggies who thought like you would have been more influential early in Hayes tenure at A&T, Hayes would have been gone a lot sooner. And you know what else would have happen... the Aggies would have gone 0-11 alot sooner than 2006. Anyway this is a basketball thread. Go Aggie Basketball!!
