Now that both the men & women programs have turned around what's the possibility of us getting a big time opponent(s) into Corbett next season? Morgan has managed to get GW & Seton Hall in successive seasons to visit their place. To bad no one showed up to watch!
I could imagine Corbett being packed for an opponent of that caliber!


What's the biggest name opponent we've played in Corbett?
Back in the 80's no major D-I team would take a chance coming into Corbett, especially when we had that 40 game home winning streak.

It is difficult to have college teams from major conferences come play in Corbett Gym because of money payouts. A&T can make more money playing them at home. The mid-majors don't want to come because of what people saw last night on TV, a wild and raucous gym (all in good fun) full of Aggie fans. A&T also had an outstanding home record until the program fell on hard times the last few years. A&T is resurging and local college coaches know it. UNC-G steadfastly will not play A&T in Corbett but is always willing to play the Aggies in Greensboro Coliseum. Even High Point has refused to play A&T in Corbett lately. I think some schools will change their minds and come to Corbett if we win the conference and go to the NCAA playoffs.

In recent years A&T was just too down-of-a-program to aggressively go after a lot of non-conference home games. You can see it has change a little bit this year and I hope it will change even more in the coming years.

What AGGIEJAZZ said is true, it's hard to get the other programs in the triad in Corbett. They think they're better than us but when you look at the score when they play UNC, DUKE or someone like that, you can clearly see they are no better than us!!

The problem with big schools coming to Corbett lies with having an athletic department that is flat broke. If Coach Eaves ask Georgetown to come to A&T for free then we would have to go to them for free and that's a payday basketball can't afford to miss out on!! We don't make money playing in Corbett because most of the seats are taken up by students not paying fans. That's why hbcu's play all these gauranty games to make money! That's why WSSU & NCCU are moving to D-1 because of the money to be made in guaranty games!!

The mistake that compounds hbcu's is that after basketball makes that money, basketball never sees any of that money so it makes it impossible for them to improve and get better talent to compete. A&T is notorious for paying football debt with money basketball has earned and reducing basketball budget to give to football!! This why so many people do not have faith in A&T decision makers----- if Coach Corbett got the athletic department out of debt in the 80's then why has basketball being treated so badly!!! Basketball earns 83 cents on the dollar, common sense tells me if a program is going to have a big-time budget it's going to be mens basketball because there is no MONEY IN 1-AA FOOTBALL!!!!

Truthseeker, you mention some very interesting points that I have always thought. I have always thought it would be better use of resources to have a competitive basketball team. It is cheaper sport to maintain, we have the history, and it is easier to build a program. We were similar to how Gonzaga is now. If GMU can be successful so can we. WE have the fan support and resources. Aggies are foaming at the mouth for a competitive team. Plus, our success will raise the profile of the conference more so than a DSU. If we are successful I am pretty sure we will raise the bar and another team in the MEAC will be right with us. I always thought the success we had in basketball during the 60s, 70s, and 80s impacted the success we had in football. I am rooting for Bibbs and Eaves.

It is borderling sacri-religious to say this on a board dedicated to our football team -but I would be fine with a competitive football, excellent band, and a superior basketball team. I think that are football team equilibrium point is/was 8-3 and until somebody on this board gets rich by hard work or the lottery and able to push some serious $$$$ into the program that is what Aggie football is/was. These time really make me appreciate Hayes- I swear he could make gold out bricks with our underfunded teams. I think that is what Eaves is beginning to understand now, unlike Hunter (with all of his Carolina glory)-you have to work with what you got.

There's no question, Hayes could do a lot of things...some pretty well, but HE COULDN'T COACH!!! So, stop whining about the past. Give Fobb a chance... he'll be OK.

I agree. BB is a sport that is Div. 1 and one that we can make serious money off of if we can make it to the tournament.

Getting back to one of my original questions of the biggest name opponent we've played in Corbett I recall UNCC paying us a visit when they were really good. It was the team with Jarvis Lang on it. He threw down the hardest dunk I've ever seen in that place.

Some of you older guys respond ..Dayton ..UNCC??? wow!!..App State and UNC-W yes..What are the chances of re instating the game w/ UNCG at the Coliseum..seems like that would be a $$$ game for both schools...

We beat Dayton by 12 at our place that year along with blowing VUU out the next game. As far as UNC-G goes, the Greensboro Sports Association took the bulk of the gate reciepts - the teams got 10K apiece.
