I live in Raleigh and I heard the radio ad for the MEAC tournament the other day. It was horrible once again. Who is handling that stuff? The only word I can use for it is "DRY". Last year it was "Hoopdaflying"(whatever the hell that means). This year we playing HopScotch on the commercial. Is Buckwheat doing the advertising for the MEAC tournament or what? Looks like we having low attendence again if they keep this up.

When the tournament was held in Richmond, the complaint was justifiably the same. That is possibly the reason why the attendence there was so poor. I think the MEAC needs to put together a marketing group with the wherewithall to produce a top shelf commercial... one that gets people (other than die-hards like myself) excited about coming out. I think we have a good product (basketball) to present to the public if we can only get them to come and see.

Dont get me wrong. I'm not saying it wasn't an improvement from Richmond. The atttendence was much higher than Richmond. That was really due to Raleigh just being a better city for holding a function like this. The attendence may rise when Winston and Central join the mix just because you will then have 3 schools from which there are plenty of alumni and students in the area. I just hate the "Fried Chicken" advertising we doing. We will never catch the CIAA at this rate.

FYI.. they have a group that they are paying an ENORMOUS amount of money to market the tourney... I mean a crazy amount.... ANYWAY.. they can do all the advertising they want.. Ive told them in meetings that the ONLY thing thats going to raise the attendance numbers for the tournament is for A&T to keep winning.. I told them last week to keep praying.. they must be praying pretty hard... If we go into the tourney in the top three.. they will see a marked increase in attendance because we wouldn't play until Thursday instead of early Wednesday and back home Wednesday night. But your point about the spots is understood..

I agree 100% about A&T winning making a difference.

I think it's funny, all the years the CIAA has been in Charlotte, you never heard a lot of pub, rare commericals, mostly radio, yet it was the hypest weekend of the year up to that point...how do they do it? I hear my ads for parties than the tournament itself (everybody knows Raleigh can't party with Charlotte)

now that I have to disagree with. Not saying Raleigh is a better spot to party, but the CIAA was "Crazy" when it was in Raleigh. Parties and Games.

The CIAA is nearly four generations old!! That's a lot of tradition. The MEAC is 35 yrs old.

Now that WSSU has left, and NCCU is about to depart...two of the more popular and progressive schools from the CIAA, do you think this movement will impact CIAA attendence in future tournaments??

You will still leave Livingstone, Elizabeth City, Shaw, St Aug, Fayetteville St, and JC Smith. Thats still a lot of in-state schools and they have done an excellent job at attracting people that didn't attend any of the schools. Not to mention that the alumni that did attend the schools really come out.
From what I saw when it was in Raleigh it was dominated by NCCU's and Winston's fan base though. I dont think that changed when it went to Charlotte this past year either.

The CIAA tournament is an institution. You still have alums (especially the older ones) from A&T, NSU, and Hampton that attend the CIAA every year and not attend the MEAC. WSSU and NCCU alums will probably do the same.

I agree Big! You still have a lot of alumnus from all the original CIAA members attend the CIAA tournament over the MEAC eventhough those institutions are now members of the MEAC. I think it's a matter of convience for most, especially since the tournament is being held in North Carolina.
Will NCCU participate in the CIAA tourn. this year?

I don't think Winston and Central leaving will shake things up that much, like somebody said earlier, the smaller schools come deep that weekend. My moms didn't even go to an HBCU and she goes to the events.
