It seems as if Eaves wants the same things, a winnable schedule in November/December and more money to recruit. I agree, we are real close. Here's the $64,000 question. Choose one:
1) Build a football program that gets 9 or 10 wins every year and goes to the final four of the I-AA playoffs.
2) Build a basketball team that gets 25 wins every year and goes to the Sweet 16.
My honest opinion is that we can do #2 without compromising football. Here's how:
1. North Carolina is a basketball state, period. 2. Football at A&T doesn't have to win championships to be successful. If we won 7-9 games each year and a championship every 3-4 years, folk would be satisfied. They would still turn out in droves for Homecoming, Winston and Central and average 17,000 or more per game as long as the band continues to also be competitive. 3. Truth be told, we are a basketball school in denial. 4. So for the 2009 seasons, layout a plan that gets you eight wins in football and 25 wins in basketball. Strategically plan what does each program need to accomplish that and sustain it. 5. As football stablizes, basketball will excel.

Well, well guys, you all are doing some good brainstorming. Thoses ideas need an infusion of money and to get that money A&T needs a group of smart and energetic people who will have the chancellor and BOT support.

I just looked at the standings. I know Coach Eaves has to be perturb knowing his team could have been 9-2 and tied for first place. They should have beaten BCC and played their worst game against the second worst team in the conference. They lost to a very young Hampton team on the Aggies home floor with a loud home crowd and a five point lead near the end of the game. The lost against Howard was furstrating because Howard was in a slump and the defense allowed Howard to shoot out of that slump.
We have to be proud of this team because they have come a long way.

The way officials have called this b-ball season, I'm surprised Eaves hasn't gone Bobby Knight on a regular basis.
I know the losses are hard to take, but think about it, did anybody give a damn about the losses last season? My point is we care now because Eaves has the program winning some games now.

I haven't read this thread lately but Maxwell your analogy makes sense.... the problem has been with everything being done for football and nothing being done for basketball. Now having said that.... could we be powers in both??? Let me just say with people with the right vision A&T could be national powers in every sport we play!!! I know it it's going to take the right revenue also.... but we need people with that kind of vision first!!
Where do we start for revenue??? Well the first place to look is money that is wasted because of bad decisions! Look at the people we've fired but still had to pay their salary!! I heard a good idea the other day on how to save tons of money when our programs travel... The AD could contact each alumni chapter and give them a schedule of each program and ask the local chapters to pay for food and lodging or see if they could work out a deal for a reduced rate.... I know some of the chapters feed the team when they are in the area... I don't know about picking up the hotel tab....
